I had one of those spill proof funnels that sitting up high and let it run for probably 30 mins to get any air pockets out. Heater was blowing hot.

I don't recall specifically but didn't you install a trans cooler? If so, which one and did you bypass the radiator or add it to the existing setup?

I ask because I've had 2 Hayden coolers (678 and 679) sitting on the shelf forever and recently came across this one - might go with the 699 instead.

With our weather being what it has been, not entirely shocked you hit those temps. Hopefully it'll resolve or you'll track down the issue. :fingerscrossed:

I recently divorced the trans cooler from the radiator before switching radiators. And as I swapped the radiator I swapped it from a 699 to a 679. I don’t want it to. Have the bypass the 699 has. My tranny has no problem getting warm, so I want to keep it as cool as I can.

Interesting. I'll dig a bit more on that bypass feature.

Basically, it bypasses the cooler until the fluid warms up and thins out and then it starts to run through the rest of the cooler. Suppose to help reach operating temps. But I’m our area, it never really gets that cold so there’s really no reason for it. It’s why I swapped to the 679. And if need be I’ll swap the 699 in during the winter.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

Totally not saying you're wrong. (I'm actually considering bypassing the radiator with my trans cooler too).

But something to think about. I had a radiator in an F-150 pop because it froze so hard... in Modesto. This was years ago, I'm sure it unlikely to happen again. But definitely think about conditions you may be camping in, not just conditions around where you live. Not sure how much winter camping you do, but a January morning in Tahoe is a completely different thing than a morning in Concord.

Yeah, it’s why im keeping the 699, and will likely swap it out in the winter (takes 10 mins) or in a pinch, I could just put a piece of cardboard in front of to help it warm up.

After years of floating ideas on hot water for the ring, I pulled the trigger on a tankless water heater instead of a heat exchanger with engine coolant. It works flawlessly! No more cold dishwashing or showers! ️

Easily taps into my propane and water tank. Ready for the next field test!

Most recent update was the camper roof rack with the kayak mounts, not a 4wd but she works constantly.90CF1D4F-19FE-4E9F-AE67-DB80696FE8FF.jpg CDF36C3B-0F51-4121-AB8F-E5BB7ADC8D67.jpg 1E6DA851-65A5-4C8B-BE53-391758DBAC9A.jpg 70C22E06-413C-4501-BD9C-73C6C06FB167.jpg

Finally done editing and uploading last weekend's trip.

I'm super new to this shit, so editing takes a bit (a lot) of time, and uploading has been taking forever (need to render in a different format... but I'm learning these things as I go).

Just stitched it together with the footage I ended up with. I think with time, the videos will improve because I'll start going in with shots I have in mind, instead of just shooting random, and ending up trying to make sense.

Anyway... here's our Dad's Day trip playlist.

    https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLu2kN2TIoSgiqwyil_tpNysOHseRAy6ES

Day 4 Part 1 and 2, I think came out the best... Day 1, 2, 3 were a lot of exploring the area, checking out a 4000 year old Juniper, etc. Day 4 was doing Niagara Rim Trail.

Did you build that stand specifically for the bumper?

No it’s one of my sawhorses I built according to Paul Sellers’ model. Look him up if you’re into woodworking.

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
I’m a bit out of the way from Chicago. But if you swing it by my buddies glass shop in Schererville I can give it a once over. I’ll likely be there most of my day

Edit… I read that wrong. Where is the truck?

All back together again. I need to bleed the brakes, put on the tires and take it for a drive.
I cleaned up the front suspension this last week. I installed new JBA upper ball joints, installed my newly rebuilt and gusseted front knuckles, installed my @goadventuretaco hard lines with brackets and stainless steel brake lines for my Tundra calipers. I replaced the lower ball joints and welded in my @Reh5108 coil bucket gussets and installed a set of new Bilstein struts with OME springs. I had to order new 4wd hub studs to finish it all up.
I'm working on getting my rig to a better place so I feel confident in taking it where I want it to go.
