I've had an issue with serious scraping/grinding when in 4wd (or in 2wd when hubs are locked) for about the past year, and even have had the front end seize completely and kill the engine. I finally got around to draining the front diff and was greeted by some delicious metallic paste as well as some blueish "oil" that poured out. Fresh gear oil is in and it is still grinding, albeit less intense. I also went ahead and pumped the front driveshaft and u-joints full of grease but still have the scraping. I am scared to open the front diff, I guess I'll pull the driveshaft and mess with it some, maybe check the pinion out and flush oil again before I really rip into it. Also replaced my carrier bearing, greased up the rear driveshaft, and finally removed my disconnected sway bar.

Did this over the weekend. I had been wanting to have Bluetooth in the truck since I bought it.

Got a great deal on it from Henrytmoc!

What’s the approximate lifespan for the MAFS? Is there even a replacement interval for it? It’s been cleaned here and there, last time was a few months ago I think. I’ve had the truck for the past 92k for it’s 292k total and I don’t think I’ve replaced it. I’m chasing a p0300 code. Thanks

Nice to have a trusted mechanic when you don't have time to fix the truck. He calls me up and asks if I have any fuel line laying around and said to bring some with me and a case of beer. We fixed the line for free and I took back the fuel pump I bought to replace.

15 min and I was back on the road and I was down a case of beer

Alright, replaced my pinion seal last night, on the test drive noticed it was too loose, put the correct preload on it, everything is good. At lunch today I notice gear oil all over the underside of my truck.

Get home and look at it, pull the flange off, seal looks fine and ive barely lost an oil. Wondering if i didnt overfill it on oil and cause some to force out through the seal around the splines? Thoughts?

The plates that hold the J hooks on my Snugtop have rusted and fallen off :( Someone suggested attaching the canopy by drilling down thru the canopy lip into the metal rail of my 1998 Tacoma and putting several bolts. I am looking for input as to if this is a good idea.

I don't see how it's possible to over fill it. Stop filling when it starts to come out the fill hole.

Naw, that oil mess is coming from the seal.

You could do that. Many of us have attached metal racks to our beds with similar methods. But the easier fix would be to replace the truck canopy clamps. I have to believe any set of generic clamps is all you need.
