    LAND CRUISER EXPERTS:

Working on some preparation for some winter projects. Question is, 9.5 inch Land Cruiser 3rd members. Are there differences I should be aware of? Not talking axles, just 3rd members. I'm looking for just the 3rd member, no locker, no axle housing.

It's pretty much to pick up for a core to eventually send to ECGS for re-gear and Harrop install. I'm going to also send an email to ECGS and ask them for what ever info they have, but figured I'd ask here as well.

The only differences I know of are the 80 series and 100 series 9.5 thirds. Pretty sure the 100 series has something going on at the ring gear for ABS. Finding a standard unlocked third shouldn't be hard though. Should be able to yank one from a semi float or a full float 80 series cruiser.

Looking at ECGS web page, it says the 9.5 Harrop Locker (Quote) "FITS FULL FLOAT ONLY" (caps was also part of the quote, not me)

I'm wondering if full float vs semi float has to do with the over all axle and 3rd, or if there is an actual difference in the 3rd members between FF and SF axles. I sent a few questions to ECGS. hopefully they can help clear it up. Obviously, I don't want to go source a 3rd member that wont work, lol.

Looking elsewhere (Pirate, IH8MUD) there seems to be conflicting info on whether there is a difference in the 3rd members between FF and SF.

I'd ask on ih8mud, there will be someone there that's tried it surely. I know physically the axles are different, the SF is actually one of the only Toyota axles that has a removable diff cover. But I could've sworn the third bolt pattern was the same. SF axles are increasingly rare just because only a couple years of LC and only the lowest optioned ones came with them. Chances are you'll find 3 FF thirds for every 1 SF anyway.

Right on... That's actually good news. Ya, I knew the SF was only there for a couple years, but I'm always worried my luck I'd find one and buy it, only to find it's a paperweight for my use. lol

The plan is to start building a RuffStuff 9.5 centered diff housing. This one is going to take a minute to complete. But I'm talking to RuffStuff and they said they could get me a housing as soon as next month. I don't really need it that fast, but production on those housings is currently on hold, so if they can get me one, I guess I need to strike while the iron is hot.

The wife is going to LOVE the fact that I have an $1100 axle housing laying around that I need to spend another 3 or 4K on to make ready to install. But hey :notsure:

October 2021 [2022 oops, 2021 October] seems like a very long time ago. But, since my lead time was originally 12 months, I am thrilled that I finally have my Super Pacific X1. Now begins the work of build and then matching up suspension to have a relatively stock ride height when loaded.

How much do those super pacifics weigh?
    Looks awesome btw.
I would recommend alcan for custom leaf springs spec'd for exactly what weight and lift you want.

ok, not what I have done but what I want to do.

I'm looking for one of these to retro/Back to the Future out my reliable old 2003. Does anybody know the brand/type?? This guy appears to work at the local WalMart, perhaps I should leave him a note and offer an obscene amount of $$$.IMG_1363.HEIC.jpg

Replaced the throttle position sensor yesterday and gave the throttle body a good cleaning. On very rare occasions I was noticing a sudden loss of power at a little over 2000rpm. This would only happen maybe one out of 50 times when leaving my neighborhood and seemingly only in 2nd gear. Once up to speed it wouldn't happen. I tried the "pump the gas pedal 100 times" trick, and that seemed to work for 6 months or so which made me inclined to think it was a dead spot on the TPS. Once the issue came back a couple months ago I figured I'd try installing one of the Aisan TPS sensors (W0133-2744128). I was toying with the idea of buying a shiny new $450 throttle body, but frugality prevailed.

Job was pretty straightforward. I stripped the lower TPS screw even with a JIS driver and had to cut a notch into the screw and use an impact screwdriver to remove it. Took me three tries to get the TPS adjusted correctly. First was too high, second was too low, third was the goldilocks setting.
