What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I know...Looked online forever and barely found any that were still for sale. This would be perfect for my truck once I build it up...

 

Man, they want a lot of $ for that.

I've always used optimas, have never had one fail. They've always been red tops til this last time. Running a D35 yellow top. Picked it up from Amazon last January for $140 shipped.

Looks like they've gone up a little since then.

Finally got around to removing the nerf bars. I'll decide over the next little while whether I like them on or off. Plan on getting Sliders in the long run, though.

No I haven't, they seem awesome though. But I kinda need my camper shell with hunting and fishing.... Don't think my Snugtop can hold all that weight on top even with my Yakima bars on top.

Plus holy hell those RTTs are expensive haha

Optima won't warranty a battery bought on Amazon.

I'm glad they've worked out for you, but reading/hearing about all the stories of Optimas' seemingly inconsistent craftsmanship, I can't take the risk of buying a near $200 battery and not being covered.

 

$220 is the retail price for them.

 

I follow the XOverland guys, I like their stuff. Maybe he has a reinforced roof? I honestly don't think my Snugtop can hold it.

Boy that would feel awkward, to me, with all that weight on top while rock crawling.

 

Dakars with extra leaf and shackles I believe.

 

Me too, i've been thinking about building one myself but doubt a shell would hold the weight.

 

Its probably fine. He's running the OME Dakar spring pack with their AAL so I'm sure it handles the extra weight pretty good.

I ran around a bit this past summer with my RTT mounted just as high with a very full bed with no trouble at all.

 

What's next for your truck besides what you been just previously talking about. Saw you said something like a build up a few post back what you got in mind?

 

if the dakars w/AAL are anything like my expos, they can handle a fuckton of weight

I threw all of my camping gear in the bed and it lowered the expos a grand total of .75"

I have seen several sit-ups where they put bars in to reinforce the mounts up top to hold the RTT weight.

What?? No you haven't. Yours is not even close to having a RTT on top of a canopy. Yours is like canopy height. Hell the xoverlands setup is way taller then even mine.

But I can say that even mine isn't super bad. Not on trails anyways. Roads it feels tippy sometimes.

Expos will hold tons of freaking weight. Dakars aren't even on the same level IMO.

They make the ride pretty stiff without something back there. Not a problem for some..other don't like it. I wouldn't care.

 

I know you like a stiff ride out back but..4.5" lift or more will be huge rake even with your new coils. Look a Cody's truck with eibachs. Or mine. I have 5 I think now and it's crazy on flat ground.

Dakars will suit you better I think..
