Gotcha. I'm definitely going to interesting in travel numbers of the solo kit. I'm pushing 13 inches with my MCM kit and short body coilovers.

I started with 225psi front the rear. Likely I'm going to drop the front down to 175psi to help get a little more compression out of the front suspension.

Right on. I think I'll start at 200. But probably go down from there.

I'll definately get numbers as soon as everything is here and installed.

Speaking of... what size coils are you running with 8 inch shocks? I was sent 16 inch coils, but these things are going to have my preload collars halfway down the shock.

    20221225_162457.jpg 20221225_162607.jpg

The coils are not compressed in the picture. I'm thinking I need 18 inch coils.

Or, I need a spring retainer like my stock travel coil overs.

I'm running 18" 500# springs. They have about 2 inches of preload since they're short body coilovers.

Ya... I'm starting to think these coilovers aren't going to work. Which kind of pisses me off, because they aren't the ones I called about, and I let them talk me in to these.

Ah damn. Yeah, that lower might not work once you get the CV axles in. If you can get a longer lower shock eyelet, it might work. It would also mean that you'd need to build a tube upper shock mount to get proper shock travel.

Definitely talk to Accutune Off-road for all your shock needs. They've been great to me and answer all my questions.

Before you go ahead and sell your current coilovers, go ahead and test fit them with your once you have your CV axles in. If they clear, I'd say send it.

16" should be what you need but you need a short body 8". Those look like full size 8" shocks. So not gonna work without modifying your coil buckets.

18" coils on a short body basically means you have 1.5"-2" of preload with the collar at the top.

16" rode way better for me personally. I have 700s though and 0 preload on them.

So where do I find Fox "short body" shocks?

Because all of the Factory Race 8 inch shocks listed (at the same length) at Fox.com are 17.43 collapsed length.

Both of the 8 inch Performance Series shocks are listed (at the same length) at Fox.com are 16.44 collapsed length.

There aren't long body and short body 8 inch shocks listed. They are either 8 inch, or they are not 8 inch.

I'm thinking when I ordered these from Poly Performance, that may have been something they could have mentioned.

Accu-tune lists a "1 inch shorter" but that's made up in the rod end. Not the body. And it makes the Factory Race collapsed length the same as the Performance Series.

They aren't off the shelf. Usually a custom order thing. Most dealers that sell the Lt kits know this and order them per the kits specs. Solo should be able to tell you a part number of approved shocks for the kit from fox. It won't be an off the shelf 8" coil over.

That said any fox, king, ads, ect short body 8" coilover will work for the kit.

Not saying you're wrong... but it makes no f'n sense that there would be a Fox 8 inch "short body" when Fox doesn't even list a part number for it.

Well I know solo recommends kings with their stuff.

But I know fox does it. Few folks have them.

I can tell you those shocks won't fit.

Solo sells King because they are a King distributor. When I was standing in the shop, talking to Bobby, and told him I'd be running Fox shocks, he made no mention of "short body." Didn't act as if there was anything wrong with running Fox. In our phone conversations he knew I wanted to run Fox because that's what I've run.

Judging by the looks of the install on their 4runner... I'm thinking there is more than one combination that will work.

    Screenshot_20221225_205521_DuckDuckGo.jpg

It's running 3 or 4 inch rod ends with tall spring retainers, and no modifications to the coil bucket.

I'll make some calls tomorrow. Hopefully Solo and Poly Performance are open.

JD Fab was using the same body length, short spring retainer, and short rod end, with what appears to be what I have here... with their 8 inch kit.

    Screenshot_20221217_142558_Gallery.jpg

Their kit now modifies the coil bucket. But this picture is from their old set up.

You won't be able to run the flat bottom coil perches or short rod end due to the CV axle. The coil will hit it otherwise.

I may be stating the obvious, and possibly what Monte mentioned already, but this photo appears to be on a 2WD prerunner, so a shock with a short rod end works in this case, but wouldn't in the 4WD w/CV case.

And of course, I have all of zero experience with long travel, despite hearing from Monte that "35s+LT are the only way to go" for quite some time now... as he's driven on 33s and "normal" travel (having finally destroyed Frank on the first trip I joined). :boink: ;)

JD Fab's kit is the same, regardless of 4wd or 2wd.

It's possible their kit has the lower shock mount moved a lot further to allow that. Wouldn't count on that for the solo kit.
