Well.. rattle can is rustoleum too

I did mine with a Harbor freight gravity feed in college using the Rustoleum "professional" quarts. Looked great the first few years, but was a constant headache taking care of it and it eventually faded pretty bad. A shop dripped brake fluid on it, and it stripped in those places completely.

hey, new to the Tacoma community and recently picked up a 1st Gen. I’m curious to know how to test the Elocker? Thanks and sorry for the newbish question. Im sure the 4x4 works but I’m going to put it on a lift later this week to verify.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

Quickest way I would test it is pull it off the diff and have someone push the button.

The "Gray wire mod" probably hasn't been done so you'd also have to have it in 4 lo or the locker wont do anything.

If you put it on a lift, put it in 4lo and push the Elocker button, once it’s illuminated then have someone grab each rear wheels while you give it a little bit of gas, they shouldn’t be able to stop either one.

It’s a play truck so not looking for show room quality by any means. I rattle canned my old red taco, clear coated and called it good. Looked pretty good for not wet sanding.

sounds interesting. I’m not too good at reading forum sarcasm so I hope this is genuine feedback . I’ll try it.

I’ll try it. I’ll google what “gray wire mod” means.

Edit: Gray wire mod seems legit and easy.

There is a gray wire in the loom under the dash (not sure about all the details of where it is because I didn't need to do it, because my truck was not originally 4wd).

Anyway... the way the locker is wired in a stock 4wd is that the locker will not function unless you are in 4 lo. Modifying how that wire runs, defeats that and allows the locker to function without being in 4 lo.

https://www.meguiarsonline.com/foru...41385-my-rustoleum-50-roll-on-paint-job/page2 Here’s the first one I read. My thought about it being faded in 5 years is if you keep it waxed it should stay fine. Any professional paint job can go to crap in just a few years if you don’t take care of it. Also, it’s $50 for the paint, so if you have to spend that amount in a few years again, it’s still a win situation. There are follow ups for 7 years after painting it this way and they say the cars still look great. ‍

on my last taco, 03’ trd 4wd the gray wire mod was first thing I did! Super easy! Behind the kick panel by drivers left foot is a module that has a gray wire, cut it, tape off one side and ground the other and bam anytime locker. Writes up on here. Did mine with a write in TTORA which is all but dead now.

I'm assuming there will be some kind of support under that? Most strike pad kits that are held on with the ubolts have something to prop it up to fight the leverage.

Not sure what you thought was sarcasm? You asked, I answered.

locker locks both rear wheels. If the locker doesn’t engage, you will be able to grab a wheel a stop it, the other wheel will start to spin. That’s how open diffs operate.
