What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

bypasses make it more complicated but not impossible. But you can end up chasing your tail with them. Best way to tune those is to close all the tubes and get the valving in a good place, then start opening tubes.

That and you want the bypass doing most the work not the coilover(for the front).

 

you sure it's not just your bushings? the OEM ones are jello. TC makes the best steering rack bushings.

and then theres the steering wheel joint mod, that helps a lot.

 

Mine looked exactly the same in box.

Haven't been able to check play yet, but I think it IS in the gear/rack.

 

in the last 2 weeks I've done everything.

even went to a poly rag joint which is a bit stiffer.

 

Got a part number for the rag joint, that sounds like it would be nice to replace

Did you get ES steering rack bushings? Because IMO those things are worthless. Super soft. The TC ones are much better.

That said, a quick thing to try is to just tighten up the guide, could be loose.

 

its the "stiffer" ES bushing, but no the play is not from the bushing flex.

the "red" compound ES bushing is a stock equivalent durometer

and yeah I tightened up the rack guide more than recommended, and it helped but did not resolve, which I found very concerning.... but now I know its a rebuilt rack not new, so there may have been an issue from "the factory"

 

and checking back thru my order history, they have both red and black offerings of the "60A" part and the "80A" part at energy suspension, I couldn't quickly find the TC durometer, but whiteline lists there offering as "85A"

 

the "60A" ES poly bushing is about the same or softer as OEM, and thus not really an upgrade as you say.

 

yeah not sure what the TC ones are. But they are damn stiff. Which I like.

Huh? Every rack I’ve gotten was brand new. The remans have different part numbers

 

The one I bought last November was brand new.

 

Can you still get em, I only see the one part avail

 

Anything -84 is reman. Without -84 at the end of the number is new.

 

I'm hearing "they're all rebuilds" from several master techs and spare parts suppliers.

I didn't believe it either, but can't explain my rack

Anybody know how do disable the "key in ignition, door open" chime without also disabling the "headlights on, door open" alarm? I was just going to bypass the door sensor but I don't want to lose the headlight alarm

 

Did it look like this? All the factory reman racks are covered in that god awful grey paint. New looks nice and shiny
