I ordered them off SuperBrightLeds. I used 4 of the #194 for the instrument panel, #3 of the NEOx wedge bulb for the HVAC controls and one of the #74 bulb for the shift selector. Took about an hour to take apart and replace them all. With the climate controls you don’t see much difference because of the orange film but it’s definitely brighter. They’ve got a ton of color options as well for the bulbs

If you can get ahold of a 3rd Gen 4runner climate control face plate from a junkyard or wherever. There’s no orange film behind those. I found that out so that’s what I did. I had to buy the whole HVAC unit though.
It was only $40 at the time back in 2015. I’m sure they’re a lot more now
Don’t forget the Neowedge bulbs needed are the 4mm ones too

Hopefully you don't run into radiant heat from your exhaust pipe melting those battery cable insulation, brake lines, or anything rubber. I wrapped my pipe and still had issue until I added reflective wrap to the rubber stuff surrounding the pipe.

Do you have pictures of the face plate? I really wanna get the full use of the bulbs since I just went through the trouble of switching them out.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

The pipe is back where it's been for going on 2 years and the brake cable is in pretty much the same spot as it was on the old axle.

But, I have 2 rolls of wrap to put on anyway.

    So... Let's talk P0710 codes.

Has anyone ever delt with that one?

Previous to tearing the back end of the truck apart, I had a P0420 code that I knew about. That's why I replaced both Cats yesterday, and I also replaced the O2 sensors. Knew I had to drive it a bit so the smog sensors can do their thing and I can be ready for test. Took it on a 64 mile loop to the smog station. At mile 63 (I'm being literal) the f'n check engine light comes on with a P0710 code. Transmission Temperature Sensor Malfuntion.

I know there has to be a temp sensor, because my torque app can read temps. But I'm not sure I've even seen where it is... and I've even had the trans out... and I've done a shift kit in this thing.

    :frusty:
    Fuck smog

It’s the same as the one our Tacomas have. Just no orange vinyl behind the dials
You could probably Google 3rd Gen 4runner hvac face plate and ones for sale should pop up
Found a pic. The search button does wonders :D

I think it's up on the side near where the tubes go in. Not 100% on that.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
Will a trans temperature sensor really fail you for smog? Also Monte is right it's right near the elbows for the transmission cooler lines on the passenger side of the truck.

Thank you both... that gives me a place to start when I have some light tomorrow.

And yes, that will fail smog. (F'n stupid).

You are allowed 1 pending code on the evap side. The trans sensor is not on the evap side, so it's a fail.

What Monte and Zane said. Its on the passenger side of the Trans, right above the trans pan surface right near where the bell housing mounts to the actual gear box/body.

Just replaced this on my A340 that I'm building.
It on the cooler send line going to the radiator trans cooler section.
You'll need to pull the front trans cooler hardline and loosen the mount to rotate the fitting out of the way.

    Right on guys! Thank you.

@ToyRyd04 I totally remember seeing that thing, now. And fortunately the part I ordered looks like the one you're showing LOL.

Part should be in tomorrow. Between this stupid sensor, wrapping my exhaust, and running the wiring for the rear Harrop... I guess I know what I'll be doing Saturday. Now, let's hope it's not raining.

Maybe it’s a simple issue with the temp sensor connector since you had the tranny out?

The trans work was over 4 years ago.

Thinking its just a bad sensor.

Finally got the truck tinted, next week I’ll probably start installing the ham radio I got in the mail on Tuesday.
I’m tempted to build a small roll bar for the ham antenna and some lights but I’m not sure if I want to do that yet.
