What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Rhino lined the back of my new bumper in hopes of keeping it from rusting out like the original one. I hope to install the bumper in the next day or two.

 

I've only taken my '03 on the highway a few times, top speed of about 75. She rides really smooth at that speed, but don't know if I would trust pushing it to 80+ (bad experiences with my Honda Pilot when she exceeds about 78 and how bouncy my Tacoma's rear end is).

I actually have this problem. My blue wire broke and I want to repair it but not sure which type of pin it uses. Could it be a barrel type connector in which case I need a JST crimper or???

changing out rear seals on a non-abs housing. saw something weird

am i trippin'? why would there be blueing? its on both sides toward the rear of the axle tubes. what kind of sign is this because it doesnt make any sense to be generating heat there .

 

Failing bearings heat up. I'd imagine forward moving pushing the friction towards the back.

 

Replaced AC evaporator, expansion valve, condenser and drier. All told a couple of hours to finish. Hardest part of the job was refitting the ac line grommets in the firewall. Gonna get it recharged tomorrow. Crossing my fingers for no leaks.

 

Rip. I wonder if it caused any harm to the strength in that area. Looks like the previous owner changed out the bearings (nachi brand, not sure if oem) and the axle/backing plate area didn’t look scorched. Eh I’m not concerned. Or should I be?!

 

Replacing/relocating the cracked windshield washer fluid reservoir, and I needed a cap to replace the old one until I can pull it out.

Maybe it was the old bearings that were swapped that caused it? IIRC nachi is the OEM. Why are you changing the seals? That should have been done with the bearings previously. Going OEM for those too, right?

Got to drive the Taco for the first time in a couple months (due to a ruptured Achilles). Went and tackled a hill that I got stuck on last Winter before getting the rear E-locker installed. Snapped a cool photo on the the way back

 

Took the bed off in preparation to do the fuel pump, fuel sending unit, fuel pump check valve, charcoal canister and a new rear bumper

 

I went ahead and replaced my 20-year-old Sony head unit that was starting to fail. I paid for the custom harness from Crutchfield and It was easier than I thought! I wish it was matte finish to match the dash. Considering a matte clear cloat enamel or hitting it with a p3000 sanding sponge.

 

Spent a few hours as part of the clean up crew for the aftermath of Trail Hero. We packed a 13 gal trash bag full, next year I'll be taking two trash bags. Most of the trash we found looked like it had been out there for a while. I also found another pocket knife

Knives are always open when I find them, luckily this one didn't find a tire.

 

So, as I was out installing some longer studs and 1/2" spacers yesterday to resolve the rubbing I've acquired with the new wheels, I was sitting there looking dumb and I happened to glance over at the spare tire that was laying up against the garage wall. Naturally, in doing so, I thought, "what a dope for not weighing that tire before I put it on the wheel." And then I realized that the spare hasn't been used yet, and since I did weigh the wheels, I could math out the weight of the tires themselves!

Wheel + tire + 8.75oz of wheel weights (dang, that one took a lot to balance!): 89 lbs 14oz
Wheel: 27 lbs 8oz

Tire - 89 lbs 14oz - 8.75oz - 27 lbs 8oz =====> 61 lbs 13.25oz per tire. Essentially 62lbs each.


Was happy to discover that - should I decide to go back to the previous wheels, or anything without the spacers - my lugs will work just fine and I won't need to reinstall the original studs - there is enough room "inside" for these longer studs.
