Unfortunately, no, it did not come with the Toyota removal cup - I bought that piece separately on Amazon, but it came with everything else I needed (and a lot more).

Shit last time I had new glass installed I had a crack within 4 months. Haven't replaced it and haven't had a crack since. Gnarly chips, yes but no cracks. Been a decade that way.

I suppose at $220 bucks installed I could just have one done every year. Although I think my glass guy might get tired of me.

In other news I made some progress on my center console stuff. 3D printer is paying off just in how quickly I can prototype things now.

$220 a year? Ok Mr moneybags.

Curious how big your 3d printer table is?

Seemed like a deal to me, came to the house and did it all for that price.

I will ride out my crack windshield for a few more years then

That feels really small. I guess for proto truck parts it works, you just have to link the parts together and use glue?

You're in the southwest now they probably have the insurance scam windshield replacement like they do in PHX where they pay you whatever your deductible is to change your windshield and then charge your ins like $800 haha. $220 was cheap to stop the leaking, last windshield didn't even have a crack. Price was hardly different with or without new glass, its almost all labor cost.

Most 3d printers are fairly small (this one is at the upper end of average build volume) but I could get larger build volume. I'm not making large things generally though. You can just make features to join parts with greater surface area with glue or epoxy if you're making something very large.

I don't remember the exact numbers, but I asked my insurance agent what it would cost to add windshield coverage to my minimum-liability second car and I decided I'd be better off just paying for a new windshield every few years.

Things get more expensive if your glass has any electricity running through it--sensors, defrost elements, etc. It's nice to not have to deal with any of that.

Oh yeah, taco glass is cheap as can be but I still pay the extra $8 a mo for the glass deductible on the BMW cause I know that would be closer to $500 if it totally cracked and needed a replacement. Have to rehang the rain sensors and ambient light stuff, just extra hassle, plus all the trim that has to come off for them to change the glass.

@biggestchungus hey I’m interested in taking that OEM stereo off your hands! My 97 Tacoma tape player stopped working and my daughter wants to keep “OEM” look (this will be her first car once she gets her license!) and we’ve built a modest cassette collection. Would love to have a working cassette player - looks like you have a jewel case in the slot! Let me know what you expect for compensation. I live in the Bay Area, BTW.

    Yers,

    TxIn

Haha I hadn't heard of that one. I just will ride out the broken glass till I get a ticket. It fits the beat down feeling of the truck as it sits.
I have a decent printer at my disposal but use shapeways for the big stuff.

Everything I'm doing here is just mock up so I can make sure it fits dimensionally and looks decent. There's a fella here locally with a pretty large build volume resin printer that has decent rates that I'll have all this stuff made in once I've nailed down the designs for.

FYI if you have AAA premiere, you get 1 free glass replacement a year.
I have it for the towing, but it's a nice added bonus.

edit: Not free actually. They reimburse $50/year.

Fuck me, really? I've had that for the past decade and never noticed, although up until last year I also had progressive with 0$ glass deductible too. Well shit I'll use the AAA one to have the land cruiser windshield resealed.
