ok, I can confidently say this fix did it, the other fixes did some to reduce some of the rattling but this definitely worked. No more dash rattle for me.

That's rough, man. Glad you're okay.

Slightly happier for me - finally finished this timing belt, so truck is back on the road... with one less fastener than it had at the start of the job (Deliberate. It just holds in the drivers-side marker light, and it was a crappy aftermarket one that didn't really fit right. The screw securing it to the grille, which was doing most of the work anyways, will have to do.)

    20250316_173958.jpg

Casualties are the aforementioned 1/2 to 3/8 adapter and an OEMTools version of the Lisle spill-free funnel. It worked until things seem to have filled basically all the way up, at which point it stopped maintaining the seal and started spilling its contents all over the front of my truck. Thankfully the air seems to be entirely out of the system, and I'm keeping an eye on the expansion tank fill level. I'll probably daily this for the week just to make sure everything's hunky-dory with the coolant, but everything was good on the test drive.

I installed a Kenwood head unit with wireless CarPlay and a backup camera.

Had to find the dreaded reverse wire under the drivers seat (for reverse signal connected to the head, not for power to the camera in the back).

Also had to find the even more dreaded vehicle speed signal wire (VSS) at the ECM behind the glovebox. (in my 2004 xtracab manual: pin 2 of 22 pin connector on the far right, a green wire with narrow orange stripe). I don’t know if the VSS connection is essential, but I did get one error msg before I connected it, and Google maps navigation seems like maybe it’s a little smoother now.

I connected the parking brake wire to ground (easier to do than to the ebrake switch) which worked just fine, as it did 5+ years ago on another car I did. I had heard rumors this hack might not work with newer units.

Thanks Mike, yeah, I am super bummed this is the only truck I've held onto over the last 20 years. Hoping I get a decent amount to build frank into what I have always wanted, I don't think the damage is too bad.

Kenwood CMOS 320. It does more than I’ve figured out yet.

It’s wider angle than I like. Anything beyond 6 or 8’ is tiny. Also, the license plate mount location kinda sucks because you see a lot of bumper in the picture frame. Might have to move it to the tailgate.

Much more than this tomorrow - but finished up VHT high temp ceramic primer & paint on Y pipe and new OEM mini-header + new O2s, studs, nuts, gaskets, etc.

Interested to see how the paint holds up with the heat! I wish I did this with mine when installing.

Me too! Both are rated for 1300-2000 degrees and I did multiple coats of primer and flat silver ceramic.

I did a 1.5" OME lift with a 1.5" Icon add-a-leaf out back and have been waiting for some universal clevis pins to show up so I can put on new adjustable endlinks, finally got tired of waiting for the backordered clevises so I picked up some m12 hardware and got the things installed.

Fun project today and an easy win. Someone had linked this part for the cup holders a while back and I bought a set. Might’ve been off Amazon.

    IMG_6101.jpg

Old set that’s been torn off.

    IMG_6100.jpg

    Old piece vs new.

    IMG_6104.jpg

This longer piece goes in the middle, where the openings for both cupholders meet.

    IMG_6105.jpg

    All buttoned up!

    IMG_6106.jpg

    IMG_6107.jpg

For those that don’t know, there are 2x 10mm screws inside the “hidden compartment” in the center console, a 10mm screw on the rear left and right, and a Phillips screw on the front left and right.

Giving the Tacoma some more attention lately and looked at some deficiencies. Hoping some of the other experts here can help me out with some insight.

Anyone have any idea what this hard line goes to? It’s not a silicone/rubber line, moreso a hard plastic. It’s been cut.
    IMG_6111.jpg IMG_6122.jpg

Not too radiator inclined, for what reason would this cake up?

    IMG_6112.jpg

If anyone has this part # for this soft hose that’d be much appreciated, don’t know what its purpose is. Found a large crack and might be the reason for my intermittent p0171.

    IMG_6113.jpg

This one has stumped me for the longest time. What is this possible ground to? It is down by the washer reservoir and turn signal/parking light harness. It is found in this sleeve.

    IMG_6109.jpg

    IMG_6110.jpg

The same for this possible ground/wire, are these related? I did not install my 7th injector kit myself so perhaps that’s intentional? By this cruise control unit.

    IMG_6114.jpg

Unrelated but looking for this size line for the windshield washer if anyone has that.
    IMG_6125.jpg

Finally, shameless s/c plug. Will need to reseal with perma at some point.

that’s the valve to adjust coolant supply to the heater core, and therefore control the amount to heat in the cab. Looks like the inlet side is weeping and as the coolant dries it leaves that red precipitate.

If it was me I’d replace the hose and hose clamp, or maybe just throw a new hose clamp on if you want to be a really cheap to see if that solves the problem with the hose sealing. If it keeps leaking the valve may need replaced.

That amount of gunk is a very small leak. Could wash it off and check at the next oil change to see how fast it accumulates. If your heat works it might be a non issue.

Others may have more insight. For example, there is a chance that your heater core is getting clogged and leading to pressure in the valve. I’ve not had issues with my heating system so don’t have a lot of experience there.

That’s the boost reference for the 7th injector, it’s not cut that’s just the coupling to attach it to a barbed fitting on the back of the SC. Ideally it is connected to the fuel pressure regulator and the boost reference is T’d in.

I would imagine without that hooked up, your 7th injector isn’t doing a whole lot in boost.

Thanks for the response, very interesting as I don’t have a heat issue but actually an A/c issue as of the past 6 months at least. The truck has no issues heating in the cab but no cool air.

With no boost gauge nor afr it’s not conclusive enough for me to butt dial. However I have noticed a lack in power. Thanks, I will look into the routing.
