Thats what I had originally planned but the more I research it the more it seems like the better option especially if I'm gonna be under there welding anyway, planning on boxing the frame.

    Yep lol.

Pretty much. You have to add a couple washers on one of the mounting points and upgrade your wires but other than that it fits right in. I ordered the special harness off of eBay so I don't even have to splice into my factory harness. It converts the plug from Toyota to GM.

Here is a list of links for the swap. I pulled this straight out of Blackdawg's build thread.

Changed the oil and worked on wiring up the CB. While changing the oil I noticed a gasket starting to crack/dry rot someright there at the yellow arrow. Anyone have a name, write up, or part number or anything for that? Thanks

That is your rack and pinion bushings. Where the rack mounts to the truck. You can buy a new rack or just replace bushings. I did my bushings. It is easy and makes a tight steering wheel.

Question: Anyone know if a 2nd Gen side mirror can be fitted onto a 1st Gen?

IIRC from the heated mirror thread, the answer is no.

I thought I read it could be done with some modification.

He posted all my links..as you saw :p beat me too it ha

Nice to know someone is reading it all :p haha

    not really.

anything can be done with modification..lol

if you want bigger mirrors just put on some 01-04 mirrors. Much better then your current mirrors and pretty much the same size as 2nd gen mirrors. But they bolt right up.

I have been looking for a set of OEM, black, power mirrors for a 01-04. However I just ran across a good deal on a set of '11s black and powered...

...Have I mentioned I hate the chrome ones on my Limited...

... So before I pulled the trigger and got them, I wanted to see if they will fit.

I have a guy at work that has a 2nd gen, I am going to bring some tools tomorrow and see how they match up and how much modding will be required.

    the bolts should line up.

Its the molding around the mirror that goes on the door that wont line up. Its MUCH larger then ours. I know i wouldn't be able to mod it and look real nice.

alternatively you might be able to take a part the mirror at the joint and swap on the mirror itself..but i have no idea really.
