What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

haha jointhe club. i dont even have a skid anymore because 2 got stripped in front of the radiator an one in the back where the tranny and engine skid meet

 

A word of advice on the two countersunk/allenhead bolts on the front piece, they can be a bear to get off after they've been mounted for a while. Went to take the front skid off this past weekend to do some normal maintenance and had a heck of a time. Kinda surprised I didn't round it off. I've read of others having that happen.

I did not reuse the originals, bud put an extra set in the bag of bolts and washers. I used some anti-seize on them so they will be easier to get off next time. Plus I plan to loosen and snug them on a regular basis. Hopefully that will minimize the chances of having an issue next time.

 

While we're on the topic, do I need to remove the transfer case skid plate? The Budbuilt belly pan fits over it, but I don't know if it's because I already mashed the stock one on some rocks. The instructions never mentioned it so I wasn't sure.

 

I left mine on when I first mounted it. It cleared (barely) until I started the engine. At idle it just barely vibrated but under acceleration it was definately hitting the pan. My transfer case skid was not smashed, yours might clear because it is.

 

I used WD 40 last time I did that - wd 40 and a patient 3" putty knife without trouble or damage (unless wd40 is bad for auto paint??) - gotta go slow though or that putty knife will trash your ride quick.

got sand all over the interior . then admired the rust that is my frame. looking into some herculiner as well.

 

nah I was playing sand volleyball with some buddies and we COVERED the inside with sand:/. I know I will someday though.

 

why do i get the impression this was discussed at length somewhere else on this site...if you do something bad do you get red? Cmack is a tw rebel?

 

Got my ARB bar sandblasted and powder coated (First pic in truck bed). Also installed skid row offroad skid plate. Been screwing around with dodgey tps but thats not fun. Also replaced passenger side fender with one from the wreckers. Mine was pretty beat up. Replaced fuel tank door lock. Pics to come of everything installed front on, was pitch black by the time I was done and the flash photo didn't bring out the best in my truck. Also a black bear I saw at the zoo on the weekend.

Middle pic is my sticky taped on signal lights and electrical wire held down hood as I drove my bull bar to the powder coaters. Little on the rough side..

 

AFmac, When did you order your kit and how long did you have to wait for it to get to you? I placed my order the first week of July and still waiting for it to be shipped. Keep being told the nitros are on back order.

 

Finished installing my CB! I hope it works.

 

Got started on the project again and I am installing the shock hoops and lower mounts still need to add the hoop bracing.

I was thinking about it but since I have more bills than money it is taking me 3 yrs to get this far. That would be one dusty thread, maybe when it is all complete.

 

did you buy a kit or find All the parts/Fab them yourslef

 

Bought Brians kit from FRORF and the rest is just parts and items here and there some used some new. I try to make what I can but am limited till I can get a plasma, grinder is getting a true work out!

 

Did some offroading/mudding a few days ago.
