Finished Stage 5 of my electrical system upgrade! Now I am ready for the winch, and additional lights and power points. I will eventually be adding a 1500W power inverter system with outlets in the bed, and the cab. Here are some pictures of the completed job, including the battery isolator.

    Second battery (Yellow Optima)

Battery isolator located on inside of passenger's fender area, behind intake airbox.

Overall view. (Yes, I know she needs a bath under the hood, lmao)

    So what do ya think?

They should be perpendicular to the front plate and tied in to the main winch mount surface. I'll try and find a pic.

The way they came there is no way for them to be perpendicular to the plate. It's either angled up or downward.

I have the same bumper I believe. You CAN get them straight on the front, you just have to get them positioned right, then welded right there. The added steel on the inside will give additional strength.

Think of the forces in pulling the truck from that point. You don't want to be pulling on the front face of the bumper, but the main 1/4" structure in shear.

Where did you buy the battery box? I'm planning to run Die Hard/Odyssey batteries and it seems that if they make battery boxes for the Optima they have a Die Hard version as well. This is the one I'm looking at.

Haha I used up the 2 I had on grinding things to fit. I think I received different pieces than other 1st gen relentless DIY bumpers. Either way made it work. Plus I was so done with this project that I could care less about the welds. I don't mind'em

What I did was use a BFH to knock the fender well down a bit flatter, (only about an inch on the higher curve, and none on the lower) and allow a bit of a tilt, as you can see. This gives me a full inch and a half of hood clearance on both terminals. As for mounting, there are 4 pre-drilled mounting holes in the battery box itself. I simply aligned the box where I wanted it to be, then drilled the holes into the fender, and used 8mm bolts to bolt it down. She's not going anywhere! hahaha.

Awesome, was wanting to do this mod sooner than later but wasn't sure if it could be mounted with just bolts and be fine.

Thanks CMJ and Bama. I guess we went full retarf when installing the recovery points. We were both trying to figure why would they just barely sit on the front plate. After seeing the pic you posted I guess we were supposed to slide them in from the inside of the bumper and have them stick out. That makes way more sense. And that's why we couldn't figure out why they were angled up or down. But now I get it. Well gives me another quick project for this weekend. Thanks guys

I broke down and let the Toyota Tech's that have put all my "NEW Parts" on her service it ( too f!@#$% cold & snowy to do it myself :p )....

They knew I was towing a trailer 1500+ miles so the quality "once over" on a lift helped ease my mind also....;)

Another 2-3 weeks and we both will enjoy Florida Sunshine ...

Your bumper looks just like mine but it looks different than some of the others I've seen. The angle of the wings on the bottom of mine and yours are similar. But when I looked at Brent's and one that Eddyrrt welded together it looked completely different.

That's not a picture of my truck. I was just taking one from another thread so that it would show how the points were SUPPOSED to look. I haven't even welded up my bumper yet. lmao.
