    I don't think so. I have heard that people put the boot up because technically that is the weaker part of the shock and it gets it up higher away from rocks but that's about it.

    I know guys who are running them both ways and no problems so far either way.

    No problem. One thing that I would do is if you take it out in the mud or water, I would check the boot when you get back to make sure it isn't holding water since the drain holes would be on the top of your boots.

    I ran my 5125's with the boot/shaft on the bottom, I don't want dirt/mud/dust to rub through the shock seal.

    Shaft should be down and body up.

    water will sit on the seals and get stuck in the boots and decay the seals faster.

    that said. A lot of guys don't like boots either as they just hold shit in more

    So, I'm curious, this thing with the Bilstein shock boot orientation and deteriorating shaft seal from water and grit, is that just something to do with Bilstein shocks?
    The reason I ask is I have a set of Rancho's that are shaft up with NO boots and have been in use for well over 10 years with no issues. Maybe the problem is just the boots themselves? I'm not familiar with Bilstein so forgive my ignorance.

    It's not written in stone that the billies seals will rot out (if installed shaft up) It's subjective to the region you live in, if it's a wet cold one you could maybe expect this to happen no better or worse than any other shock I'd think, if installed shaft down than this becomes less an issue but seeing how the boots aren't water tight you could have some issues from moisture/dirt remaining inside them... If installed shaft up

    All set up for the next year or so, ten oil filters and a set of plugs from my friendly neighborhood stealer.

    Ok, that makes sense. Most people around here choose no boots mainly for the reason that the boot itself can cause damage to the seal upon sudden compression although I have never personally witnessed this.
    Also we don't salt roads here so that may be another factor with seal failure.

    Shopping for new bushings for the shocks and coil overs. Any suggestions? Links? I noticed that some are surrounded by metal? Is there a specific shape for ours? Or can I just run down to the ole AutoZone and pick up some generics...?
