What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Just finished swapping out wheel bearing cv axles seals and upper balljoints big project . Pain in ass for sure.

 

I dont know enough about alignments to kbow if this is good or not. Drives strait which is all I really care about but I'm curious, anybody have input?

 

I put my speaker behind my center console, it's not mounted just placed there and it sounds good. Doesn't roll around either

 

Looks half-assed to me. A lot of shops will only adjust the toe if it that is all it takes to get the numbers to "turn green". Notice how the camber and caster are unchanged. With some effort, the tech could have gotten you a little more caster and evened the camber out. It could definitely be better, but you will have to tell them what you want.

 

You guys are light-weights for sure.

Last summer when we were all in Powell, we all weighed our trucks on the same scale, one after another.

Ben and Mark (IDtrucks) were by far the lightest at 4400, Monte was the heaviest at 5600 and Joey (tonto27) and I were below fat frankenstien a little at 5400. We were all loaded for bear tho, headed for Lander and then the Alpine loop.

 

Are you lifted at all? Still with stock control arms?

As these guys have mentioned, a toe and go alignment is designed to make the shop money because it does not take long to execute and doesn't tie up the equipment or the tech for very long.

Assuming there are no wear issues with your suspension components, a competent tech could get better results for you.

 

Let it live the easy life and haul bikes instead of getting abused this weekend.

 

Based on the results I get when I use the truck scales around here, I agree those numbers were high. Maybe as much as 4-500 lbs. high.

I've probably used my 'lifetime' alignment 10 times in the last 3 years. They don't even bother to ask me any more if I want that courtesy check. Also on a first name basis with their best tech.

I'm sure they say, look, here comes that picky, pain in the ass, guy again.

 

Positive caster is what you are after correct? Between 3-5* that will help with straight line stability from what I understand yeah?

Got my basic kit today and hooked up the lights and still have to heat wrap the wires and tuck them better so it doesn't look like a "spaghetti factory" as Brad would say.

Replaced my fuel filter today. Nothing special. Just looking for a little more MPG's.

 

I havent had them try and sell me anything yet, the first time I went in I had just changed all of my ball joints myself so I dont think they were gonna bother. After getting like 4 alignments already this year I think its been worth it!

Firestone hates me, I go in there all the time though its a much easier job for them now than before.. I to know them by name and vice versa, and only let a select few do the alignment work.
