As often as Rockrash dictates. Painting is simple and cheap and keeps them from looking like total crap. If it was a truck that just stayed on the street or simple dirt roads it definitely wouldn't need to happen very often. But anyone who spends time in the rocks knows that you end up with rockrash on the wheels. Mine are no different and if you looked closely you'd see that several of those little buttonhead screws around the lip of the rim are chewed up badly.

Looks good! Jealous of the extra height you have with that top, but I don't like how they look from the outside so I'll stick with my current one

That's my typical approach. I actually wash this truck maybe twice a year. I figure I could treat her a bit before the winter with a legit detail.

sorry I don't know where they came from originally. I bought them used from a Chevy. They were white/rust with blue and red pin stripping. I painted them black with Rocker gaurd (rubberized spray paint) last summer. Gave them a coat of Tremclad flat black as a refresher just before I put them on.

Hello. I don't remember if I posted here before, but this truck is worth seeing.
Presented here is a 2003 Tacoma I bought brand new. It's a TRD 4X4, SR5 Package, sliding read window.

The truck is in pristine condition for only 39,000 original miles to date.

    I have added:
    1. Polished SS side steps
    2. Polished SS Westin Bull Bar with KC lighting
    3. Chromed wheels with BF Goodrich raised white letter tires
    4. Bed cover
    5. Bed extender
    6. Upgraded stereo system
    7. SS exhaust guaranteed for life of the vehicle
    8. All tiny dings and dents removed
    9. Aaaaah-ooooo-gaaah horn just for fun.

I would love to make something like that in mine. I tried an inflatable mattress and although it fits perfectly, by morning, we were sleeping on the hard plastic bed liner. Did you add the carpet to the top of your shell? The bare fiberglass does not insulate at all.

If you put a good wax on it, a rain washing will clean it up a little, but nothing like soap and water...for me, this has to be one of the easiest trucks to wash and wax. Not to mention, keeping good amount of wax on the paint will reduce the number scratches you get (rather scratch wax then clear coat/paint).

I've also used an inflatable with my tent in the back before I had the shell. Same thing, bed deflated every night. I chose the option to have my shell lined prior to purchase, but I did carpet the platform myself. I heard that if it's not lined, the condensation from breath builds up on the ceiling and drips on you, wasn't down for that. haha.

Yeah I was being completely facetious. My truck is not a show truck. It gets beat to shit. Cleaning it is not really an area of focus for me since it's in the dirt 1-2 days a week.

Here is mine (built by PO). It has a slide out section to sit on the tailgate since it's a short box. However, this means that still can't really use it cause the bugs will get you (can't close the hatch)...

I'm with you man, I don't have a show truck either, just hate ratty looking paint...lol

I need to find a good polishing compound so I can work out some of the scratches and bring the paint back to life. Putting wax on the paint will make it look 10x better.

Well I trust his welding capability since he welds for aluminus. instructs military by teaching the navy and marines how to weld and certifies them. and also works for senior aerospace.

Well then...maybe he knows how to weld...but I wouldn't trust his ability to fabricate after the way he made the cage. Two different sides to the same coin really

    Just me

That looks really nice! I've been wanting to do this myself. I normally use a cot but it would be nice to have room for...two.

Welding and fabricating can be two very different things.
