    My original lbj's made it over 200,000 miles, but they were a ticking time bomb at that point. With larger tires and more off road use, I check them once a week now.

    It's less Tacoma and more mod
    Do any of the service manuals have a recommendation on mileage to change them at? Seems like a good idea to do them with another major service like timing belt if they don't have their own.

    The problem with that is the amount of play that is considered too much by the FSM is very, very small. So much so that it really can not be effectively measured by the average person. If there is any noticeable play, it needs to be replaced.

    @Dirty Pool is a wealth of knowledge on the subject and has written about this before.

    Mine made it to 190,000 also before a bit of play was detected, had mine switched out with with lifetime 555's from Napa as well as had a Napa shop install them. They are now covered anywhere in the U.S. at any Napa service center.

    Drop bracket lift and booger welds
    LBJ's are really easy, castle nut presses them in. I do recommend a pitman puller to remove the old ones though.
