What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Sometimes Carquest has Redline MT-90 in stock at its brick and mortar locations. But generally you have to get GL-4 online. I recommend racer parts warehouse if you are going to buy online. It was the cheapest with shipping for redline.

 

Cool bud, I guess I'll be doing the tcase and diffs now and order the GL-4 online. One more for you, more like a confirmation, for the tranny - the fill/drain plugs are the same. Is this correct?

 

Possibly any specialty speed shops? Or offroad shops?

 

Yah, they are both 24mm and neither one of them has a magnet (kinda weird, so I ordered a marlin crawler low profile magnetic drain plug to replace it). If for some reason one of yours has a magnet, you should put that one in the drain hole.

Also, you know you need a large Allen key set to open the front diff right? Preferably a set that can attach to a ratchet so you can use extensions.

 

Thanks, I actually meant to ask about the front diff. In the pictue that I'm seeing I only see one plug. Does the front diff only have one plug to both drain and fill?
Yes, thanks for the reminder on the allen set. I will make sure I have one for each plug, I'm sure they're not all going to be 24mm right.

 

I'm on my way home now, so I'll check my Allen key sizes when I get home I remember it was pretty big like 12mm or 14mm. The fill plugs for the front diff is pretty high up. I'll take a picture for you since I'm walking to the truck right now.

 

Any new material (gaskets or plugs) needed after?

 

Duh your cvs got wrecked. Your a 4banger with no armor using a 620lb front coil...you probably have over 3.5" of lift. What did you expect??

Mine froze over all the time to the point Id just leave them in. Just like you never ever use the E brake either other wise it'll freeze on..lol

 

But it rides so nice, more like just 3" now. It used to be at about 3.5 though.

 

You can reuse the plug gaskets, I did without leaks. But it's always recommended to get new ones

Yea but you still can't blame your hubs for wrecking your cvs. That was your own fault. Those coils should only be used with armor up front.

And Id bet if you rode in a rig with a different front setup you'd think otherwise haha

I think I am going to drop my coils all the way down. I had initially planned to get a bumper and some skids, but that has been pushed...so...yeah...cv boots explode quickly.

 

I didn't blame the hubs, but I did say that the damage can be reduced by unlocking them which is nice. I realize my front setup is non ideal, currently working on a new plan for it.

Speaking of which I got offered some kings for the front with remote resis for $300 shipped. But they need a rebuild is that a decent deal or should I wait to buy new?

 

I think that's a deal. You can rebuild them yourself and save even more.

 

Rebuild them for sure. $300 shipped is crazy. New goes for $900+ and that's without RR
