What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

no problem wish I could have more input on the mud. give me another 2 weeks and I'll be taking my truck through the bush and I'll let ya know about the mud. ome coils and shocks arrive tomorrow and installed early next week. gonna do the front diff needle bearing and drop my carrier bearing at the end of next week and she will be ready for the bush.
I feel like stopping with the ko2 when raining is great so far. it's also rare for me to spin the back tires but I do baby my truck on pavement

 

I hear ya. A standalone would be awesome. These damn locked ECUs in our trucks like to be difficult.

 

I used them in a bit of mud and water on Wednesday. They perform pretty darn well, they aren't as good as a mud terrain but they also didn't pack full and become slicks either. I avoided getting stuck in a huge puddle because they kept grabbing. My video on the previous page shows a bit of mud but I have more that I edited out if you want to see it.

 

My 265/75r16 barely rubbed at full lock with the stock wheels. I figured 255 shouldn't rub.

 

Got her some new wheels and ko2's and went fishing.

 

Limit strap stuff and steering rack bushings from Low Range.

 

Going from 265/70/16 which I didn't notice rub from, 255/85/16 has some minor frame rub. I pull my fender liners and mud flaps off and nothing is too bad at stock height. About to lift a couple inches and then i should be golden.

The 255 is narrower than the 265 but it's taller, which pushes it into the frame when turning.

Just noticed you have 3 inches of OME lift, shouldn't have to worry. Hopefully you can get some decent alignment numbers. Mind sharing what you run for UCAs?

 

My 255/85's rubbed on the frame for the first thousand or so miles.

 

My UCA's are stock, the alignment place i used is in a little Podunk town and they didn't provide a sheet with before and after, but it drives good and tracks straight, caster isn't as great as stock but it doesn't wander, just a little bit more sensitive to cracks and ruts in the road.

Here is a little tip for the limit strap mounts. I did some thing like this. I cut some 3/16 plate and welded the mounts to it, then welded the plate to the frame. Like the pic below. But I didn't make the plate as big as it is in the pic. The plate was just big enough to weld the mounts to and have a little meat to weld to the frame. It's up to you.

 

Relocated my turn signals. Was very liberal with the epoxy not so much for sealing but hopefully for strength since you need a decent amount of pressure to put the bulbs in.

Good to know. I just stumbled on the idea because my vertical isn't very good. Plus using a sick to get in-between that mount vertically would of kicked my ass. At least it know welding flat first I can get good welds on the mount.

 

Vertical is a bitch (7018 anyway), especially in a position like that.
