What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Very simple.

There's two plugs on your rear diff. The upper most on is the fill plug (where you put the new fluid in). The bottom most one is the drain plug (where the old fluid will drain).

Make sure to remove the fill plug first prior to removing the drain plug. That way if it's seized or your strip the head, you can still drive your truck. (if you remove the drain plug and drain the diff fluid, then can't remove the fill plug to fill it back up... you're screwed).

Id probably get an angle funnel instead of a pump, because pumps kinda suck.

Some might be anal about fluid amount, but really just fill it till it starts coming out the fill hole

It's actually more. I just ordered my RTT and also get a rack built for box. I'm still thinking about supercharged but idk. I'm just building my perfect dream truck.

Without rear differential lock system: 2.6 quarts

Recommended oil viscosity:

Rear
Above –18* C (0* F): SAE 90
Below –18*C (0*F): SAE 80W or 80W–90

Dude removes the drain plug first then the fill plug. No entirely too smart.

My f'in fill plug for my front diff is completely seized. I eventually have to remedy that so I can actually change the oil.

 

It was awhile ago I read that, maybe I'm thinking transmission? Maybe I'm just wrong.

 

Lol, the fill plug on my old rear diff was crumbling away due to rust. Luckily(?) my pumpkin was rusted thru so I never had to drain that axle...since Toyota doesn't believe in removable diff covers like everybody else...

 

He said he put $10,000 into it so I'm assuming he's not counting the truck
