What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Nice man I have been looking at a spray in liner for a bit, but I have a hard time dropping the 450 for a line-x product. I'm curious how many coats you did? How much product did you buy?
How do you think it will last with moderate/general use?
Was it easy to mask off the bed lines, did they clean up or pull off clean?
What kind of prep did you have to do to the bed?

 

Started changing the clutch fluid today. It was rather black.

Also found I'm starting to get some of the wonderful frame rust

Cleaning up a little while oil drains. Gotta keep the frame and axles looking good!

 

I used 3 coats, I bought a gallon from Walmart for $43.99. It actually seems tough, I've always used line-x in my nicer trucks and it holds up flawlessly. This seems to be rather tough considering its 1/4 the price. I haven't been able to scratch it off yet and I've tried hard.
For the bedlines I pulled a tape 1.5 inches off the top of the bed and put a mark than did the same on the other end. The hard part is getting it to curve around the corners correctly. Just pay attention and mark it a few times.
For prep work I sanded the rust out with 50grit wet polishing pad then primed it. Let it sit two days than sand that with 220 grit than let it sit a few hours, then I took a leaf blower and blew all the dust out. After that I wiped the whole bed down with aceatone. Finally I put a coat on waited 3 hours applied another coat waited 3 hours applied another coat then let it dry.

Btw after three coats I still had Half a gallon left

I didn't paint it. That's me cleaning it with tire shine

Put these steering rack mounting bushings in earlier today. Also tried to take the catalytic converter off to see if it is what is causing my lack of power but the bolts were rusted fast. I pulled off the oxygen sensor to let the exhaust out before the converter and it seemed to help some.

 

I have the 5 speed. I'm not super worried about it at this point actually. Been driving it for several days now and it hasn't happened again. It's possible that I just didn't fully engage it when I parked it. It was on a slight incline. We'll see.
