Fine isn't the right word for 295/75/16.

I've done everything short of tubbing to get mine to fit properly.

What's your back spacing? If it's not low enough you will hit the uca.

Ha true, more like functioning. But the 305's are "half an inch shorter" so that's why I think I could get them to work

Nice, love there wheels. Forgot you have aftermarket uca's and I have stock so I'm not sure how that changes rubbing issues. With my 285's I had to have at least 4.25-4 to clear the stock uca.

It won't be anytime soon, it'll be in May. But I just saw the Maxx's in 305 and got intrigued.

They're also like 3/4" wider. Width hurts just as much if not more than height.

    Waiting for a 285/85/16.

Yea youl want 4" or less. you only want as little as to clear the frame and uca. any less and it gets harder to clear body.

Forgot about that part, I'll have to look more into it as time goes on. Maybe look at different tires, not sure yet

May have to get the F5's then because they're 3.5 bs then

The more they stick out the more issues you find with rubbing in area's like front bumper and fender flares (if applicable) etc... you have better clearance with the body the more the wheel is actually in the wheel well correct? Just making sure I am understanding this right.

I wanna say that's correct. If I were to add spacers it'd have to cut a bunch off at the pinch weld

virtually identical except for the height. and a touch narrower.

Compare that to the 285/75R17 I'm running, a true 34".. again, virtually the same height...
the green is mine, the orange would be your 305 on the SCS wheel. Your tire is actually wider at the tread, there will be cutting in the scrub area (lower fender lip) and lots more rub against the frame.

Yea. with less backspacing the tire gets pushed closer to body while turned.

Where did you dig that up? I like that.

Thanks for the info, kinda what I was looking for. I'll look into that more, worse case I just get the 285's

Here. :) And you will need this chart to determine the actual offset/backspacing for the wheel you are running.
the SCS Ray10 in 16"x8.5" is a 4.00 backspacing which is equal to -19 offset. I actually did yours wrong, using -12 offset. Using the correct offset, we get this...

Now look at your tire compared to mine, it will actually rub the frame the same as mine, but, the scrub contact on the fender will be huge. Mine is green, your is orange.

    This.

Width is actually worse. As you turn it'll put the tire even more into the body and frame then a tall skinny tire like a 255/85.

    I have 255/80r17 and barely rub though it's a true 33.

My dad had 305/70r17s. They are big tires. Be hard to fit on a 1st gen without tubbing.

    @BYJOSHCOOK
Here is the 305 you talked about compared to @Blackdawg and the 255 he's running.
Keep in mind the different wheel sizes. the 255 looks like it might be a better fit for what you are trying to accomplish. It's also a touch taller.
305 in orange, 255 in green. Assuming the 17x8.5 is -10 offset

I like the 255 size. Fits well and tall.

I still don't personally love the feel of skinny tires offroad persay..but no other complaints really.
