    But then again, I never tried to drive like a race car. I drove like an old man like I still do with 285s. I notice power loss but it isn't significant enough for me to spend a grand on fixing.

    I've got 295s and don't feel the need to regear. There's some power loss but nothing significant.

    +1 for regear. Especially if you live in a hilly area. I would go 4.88 if you're NA, and if you're even thinking about going to 35s, skip the BS and go with 5.29s. Wish I did.

    I run 265/70r17 on a 4cyl.
    Slow? Yes.
    Drivable? Absolutely.

    A v6 can turn a 285 no problem.

    285 is closer to a 33...and it's not about the engine being able to get the job done...if your gonna wheel the truck it's about shift points/torque...etc. even with daily driving. It all depends on your current stock gearing if you would see a drastic change, but to answer I agree with Monte a re gear is definitely worth it

    285/75 is over 2" larger in diameter than 265/70, and an inch wider. You will have a much larger contact patch and rolling radius, and you will notice a significant power loss. Yes, you could still drive it just fine, I'm running 35's on 4.56 gears. It just sucks.
    Don't take my word for it, go get the tires and run them for a bit, then see if you want to regear. I'm betting you will.

    Or won't..most who think they don't need it just don't realize what they are missing. Until they either A) finally regear and facepalm so hard going "why the fuck didn't i do this sooner" B) Drive a bone stock tacoma on 31s and go "wow this thing has some pep! Wish mine did...wait a second..." C) Drive a regeared truck

    Its worth it.

    I thought I was the only one to feel this way. I regeared to 4.88s with the v6, auto and 33s. Sometimes I feel this is just barely adequate. I sometimes wish I had gone with 5.29s instead. I will never go larger than 33s now. Not gonna regear a 2nd time.

    If your like me with an auto and 3.91s its well worth it. Things a pig compared to when it had 235 tires.

    Really? Think about it. It would require new setup costs and a helluva lot of work. Have to replace the ARB in front and find diff donors of unknown condition. Also means disturbing the axles again in the rear. Naw, not worth the headaches.

    Running 35s is just dequavian anyways.
