He was stuck but not buried, it's really soft out there, below the grass is a thin crust and below that is just mud, I sunk my truck out there 2 years ago, i almost got 2 tractors stuck trying to get my truck out.
    He has MT's as well.

Assuming 4x4, and MTs to boot? I'll take your word that it's a tough area, but getting stuck like that just doesn't seem likely, ya? Either way, I love seeing full-size pickups getting rescued by minitrucks. Something about that satisfies me.

The guy who drives that truck is older, always eases into stuff, if he had been going 10-15 and maintained speed he would've been fine, but he didn't.
If you spin your tires to clean them out you'll sink like a rock out there, it was so wet when I drove by where he was stuck there was water shooting out from under my tires.

It was funny watching the guy text his son (a friend of mine) to tell him he had been pulled out by my babytruck.

So it comes down to skill/technique/approach. Just goes to show that equipment doesn't make or break performance. Sure, it can help. A lot. But the driver is the true determining factor.

Why i tell people now to stop buying armor and shit and just go drive. That'll tell you way more what kind of gear you want. Plus you learn how to drive way better.

I have little experience offroad thus far, so I am no expert on this topic for sure, but I can say this. When you have little or no armor on an otherwise stock truck, your focus definitely shifts considerably towards learning to drive as "correctly" as possible. When your truck is your only vehicle, you want to avoid damaging it. And I don't want to develop a habit of relying on armor to protect the truck. I'd much rather gain skill and be able to wheel confidently and have the armor there in case I fuck up or if I wanna try something harder than I am used to.

Yea thats the way to do it. And lockerless. Knowing how to pick a line is way more important if you don't have a locker. Then when you get the armor or lockers you really enjoy them more i think. And while you get to find new limits to the truck with the new toys, you're still better because you learned the "hard" way before.

Yeah I make a point of using the locker only when needed. It just feels like cheating if used when not needed. At least as a beginner. Later on, I might wanna use it on easier stuff just for the amusement, but right now I would rather wheel unlocked and gain more from each trip. There is mo replacement for skill, and I don't want to hamper gaining that by using assists the whole time. If I didn't want to have to figure out how to wheel, I would just ride passenger all the time.

Who here is running a Trail gear rear bumper?

I know I've seen a couple, but I can't remember who. If anybody can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.
