Took about an inch inch and a half or so.
I had them angled to like 120 degrees or so. Honestly just eyeballed it until I liked it, made sure the doors had clearence then went from there.

That angle looks similar to mine. We put mine at ~22.7° above horizontal on each side. I would say it's a little more angle than typical. Seems ~15° is more common for angling sliders.

EDIT: pictures, for reference. Can't tell the angle too well, but I don't have any others on hand.

You should get some, they are the cheapest form of "armor" your can get and there really aren't any bad ones out there.

Damn that definitely is high. Is that really 45°? We initially had mine at something like 35°, iirc, and the door did still open but it was close. I am surprised 45° isn't a problem.

I can't say I'm partial to either, really. I like angled as well as flat. But from a performance standpoint, I see more benefit in angled. Less loss of outboard ground clearance.

Interesting. Different part numbers, but otherwise interchangeable among all years, 95-04?

    98-00: 43330-39815 and 43340-39585
    01-04: 43340-39436 and 43330-39556

I already got mine for $170 total, but it they are interchangeable, it could save others time and coin to get the 01-04

The real concern is width of the truck as @m3bassman can attest to, we were forced to take a much tougher line due to rocks that would wedge us in on either side...

The line in this pic didn't work....

    So this was the alternative...
