What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Yeah, they were extras we had in the garage from our old runner. Mostly ran them because the stock wheels are still mounted with our old tires still and they are worn unevenly. Still hoping for a new set of wheels in the not too distant future. Just found a set of spidertrax (4) for $100 . Only two weeks of use on em. Working on shipping now

 

Well today I replaced my transfer case and rear diff ujoints and carrier bearing. So silky smooth now! The truck now looks a bit different from the profile pic as I've done tires, rims and 2" lift with Billie 5100s. I do have a question I hope someone can help me with: I'd like to drop the carrier a bit. What amount should I drop it with the 2" lift? 3/8" seems common

 

The carrier bearing? Why do you want to lower it? Some people have high speed vibrations and find shimming it down a little is helpful, but in general all it does is increase the u joint angle at the transfer case.

 

I've increased the angle at the joint right behind the carrier by installing the 2" shackle lift. Thought a small drop would help realign things

 

If you are not experiencing vibrations or other issues from the lift, I wouldn't do anything. The best way to bring the u joints back into optimal alignment with a two piece driveshaft like ours is to rotate the rear axle so the pinion points at the carrier bearing. This involves either angled shims under the rear leafsprings, or cutting the leaf perches off and rotating the axle, then welding the perches back on.

Getting used to the new ride. Had a hell of a time putting the extended break line on.... stupid flair nut!!!
And had a hell of a time figuring out the breaking due to LSPV... so, little Home Depot fabrication, for now... oh and just said F it to a bracket for the exhaust.. just chop chop

 

Got her back from Toy Only Swaps (TOS). These guys installed a dressed 5vz-fe long block that I got from Yotoshop.com. So far she sounds and feels great but for some strange reason I'm starting to feel a strong vibration on the shifter and steering wheel. Did my homework on a couple of forums and ordered a new tranny mount and a carrier bearing in hopes of alleviating the vibration issue. It is definitely not engine related as the vibration doesn't respond to rpm but speed instead.

I'm bummed not being able to enjoy the new motor because of the vibration issue but it's a good thing that I'm still in the break in period. Anyways here are some before and after pics.

Is there a website I can input a VIN to know what trim line and such a vehicle is?? I'm looking at a 16 4Runner thats pretty well loaded but doesnt have a badge one on it. I'm wondering if its a TRD or Limited or what!

 

Is this the tundra brake upgrade? What all is needed for conversion

 

Radiator blew which caused head gasket failure. Engine had 210,000 miles and I wanted a clean start.

On a different note I order a oil catch can and was wondering if anyone one could point in the right direction on how to properly install one. I have seen some threads showing them off but I can't see what and how it's connected. Any help would be awesome!!!

 

I routed mine into the PCV circuit.
The "inlet" hose of the catch can connects to the PCV in the valve cover, and the "outlet" hose from the can was routed to the vacuum inlet for the PCV into the intake manifold (right behind the throttle body IIRC)

 

Yep, just need to trim the dust shield and I'd recommend new brake lines from wheelers off-road..
