just called the local shop and he straight refused to do it for me. said he had no interest in installing someone else's parts, then just hung up on me. i have no interest in letting jerkoffs like that touch my truck anyway. the other shop said they'd do it for $211.56.
if i just rent a coil compressor from o'riley's is it really that hard or dangerous to use? no way im paying over $200.

Just be very very careful and you'll be okay. Maybe just buy a high quality compressor?

Yeah fuck that place. and the compressors at O'Riley are not that great so be careful using them and remember if you mess them up because your springs have a high spring rate your paying for it.

It's very doable. I rented a beat up coil compressor from autozone when I did my car's suspension. It definitely was a pain in the ass but I got it done without any problems and it was free. They refunded all 50$ when you bring it back.

Cars are a lot different the spring rate on a car spring is a lot less then trucks. Our springs are harder to compress and if your replacing them with new ones that are stiffer it can really cause damage to the spring compressor and that could be bad for you if it breaks.

i'm just using my stock springs (for now, sigh). the most expensive coil compressor i see when i do a google shopping search is like $45 so even if i have to buy a nice strong one that's way better than paying $200. other than that i just need basic wrenches and sockets right? (and a jack, jackstands... nothing special i haven't thought of right?)

oh and is it even harder to compress since i want to use the 2.5 setting?

Yeah that's kinda scary to do with a little $45 compressor.

I got them for $117.96 on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Vision-HIL-ST...867C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1303938156&sr=8-2

My springs stiffness were very close to my trucks if not stiffer. It was a pretty hardcore stiff setup.

It's worth it to do yourself over paying a shop 200$ especially if you can rent one for free.
