I take it most people take the sway bar off on 1st gens? I know on my 2nd gen the majority of people took them off.

Only if you have aftermarket springs and go off-road. Other than that it's better to leave it on

What's the advantage of removing it while off-roading with aftermarket springs?

Better droop and flex as you don't have a bar of metal holding you back. With the heavier spring rate it'll keep you from swaying on turns

I have three Tacoma's the one I use for off road does not have a sway bar but the one the family rides in daily does.
Would rather have all the safety items on theirs.

I'm rockin' the missing sway bar:

Initially the feeling was more tip with initial turn in.
Now I am used to it.

It really boils down to this -> slow F-ing down. Any 4x4 is not meant to handle well on the pavement, mall crawlers included...

I'd be ashamed to admit how long it took me to get them back in. I did that bushing upgrade at the same time I replaced them.

I like your elocker skid. I still have mine in the box to mount up.

There is a nice gas tank skid out there. I forget now who makes it. Looking at the way the gas tank hangs in the rear I'm wondering if the heavier skid would really help since it just attaches to the gas tank and not the frame.

The RAT gas tank skid has the front bolts attach to a cross member. It also doesn't have those cuts on the bottom that could get caught up on something

Jesus don't do that. Just buy a used one or a new 3rd party one. I'm sure the 3rd gen 4Runner motor will work, if the connectors aren't the same you can just splice the old connector.

Lots of dust and custom dents, Check Build
My LROR gas tank skid bolts to the crossmember in the front. If you're going to hit your gastank, it's most likely in the front anyways.

FWIW, I've hit my driveshaft on numerous occasions. It's got a few little dents in it, but nothing too bad. They seem to hold up well. I have broken off the zerk for the slip joint like a dozen times though.

Nice. Are they still on TW? The one I was thinking of is full of holes which doesn't seem like a good idea.

Either way the back of the skid just attaches to the tank which hangs from the cross member by a metal strap. It would be nice if there was a way to attach the rear of the skid directly to the cross member unless the tank is meant to rotate or push up in the rear.

Edit: I guess there is another issue. The cross member that supports the back of the tank and the muffler is not all that strong. I wouldn't really want to support the full weight of a truck high centered on the tank :)

Lexus ES300 seats are coming along nicely. Trying to figure out how I'm going to weld them to the Tacoma rails, I have the electrical functions worked out for the most part.

Those look like they sit way higher than the stock seats, or is that just how they're mocked up?
I would love to do something like this, but if anything I need to move the seat down.

Nope you're right, they ride super high. This isn't even with the Tacoma seat rails on yet, once I weld them on it will be even higher. The seat does have seat cushion adjustment though. I'm a pretty tall person at 5'11" and it's really not that bad.
