Funny to think my old bedliner is hauling tens of thousands of dollars worth of pot up and down the California coastline.

If that's not the American Dream I don't know what is.

I buy/sell a lot of parts and meet a lot of Tacoma owners. Somehow in every conversation the topic of mileage comes up. That guy and almost everyone I meet are always shocked when I tell them I have less than 100k miles. A lot of these guys told me they bought their truck at 200k and are like the 3rd or 4th owner. I have yet to meet anyone with less than 100k miles.

When I was loading my truck onto the tow truck when my flexplate imploded I parked it in a neighborhood. One of the residents walked up to me wanting to buy my grille guard for his '02 if 'they were just going to bring it to the junkyard'. That guy told me he bought his truck at 230k miles and was something like the 3rd owner. That's the case with most people.

When I got my truck two years ago it only had 75,000 miles on it. Really rare for a 1998.

Damn, yeah finding a 1st gen under 100k is rare. Im at 175k and i bought mine used certified in 2005 w 6k on it. Its still young if I take care of it! Its just gonna get harder to find 1st gens w low miles. But they go for a long time. Im jealous of everyone who ownes multiple 1st gens!

Works just fine on stock wheels/tires, at least with some chains. I have installed these on all 4 several times and they were great.

I'm imagining how owning one of every generation would be.

I feel like the 2nd gen would be the butt of that collection. :anonymous:

I can’t remember exactly what they do up in Tahoe but i know there are areas that require chains regardless of AWD or 4WD like Paradise up here in WA for example. Kind of a pita but can definitely help you out.

No way. I like the 2nd gens. Would own one if i could afford it. 3rd gen...no way. too much shit in them to go wrong and a smaller motor.

Yeah I had a feeling. We took our E320 up there years ago and I distinctly remember us trying to remove the chains after a certain zone, but they were frozen to the tire.

Honestly I just like how the 3rd gen looks. Trucks are so 'angry' looking now.

I've done a mod or two
Would have been just fine if it was just a visual redesign but they fucked up the auto and paired it to an engine that makes power in the same power band as a sport bike.

I don't. I hate knowing that they made the face huge..when it could have been smaller. Like a 70's mustang front end.

I just want them to bring back the real mini truck and quit trying to look like a 1/4 ton truck when its not.

I have a buddy who bought a Gen 3 and came to me asking about a weird engine noise. It was some weird 'pulsating' like a Diesel would sound like. I thought the worst and told him maybe it was an exhaust leak or something like that. He brought it to two Toyota dealers and they both said it's normal.

It did NOT sound normal, it sounded like something was off. I guess that's just how they sound like.

Does anyone make a compact truck anymore? I know Ford is bringing back the Ranger but I thought it looked so goddamn ugly. It's also HUGE.

The frontier is still normalish size, but really no, the mini truck lives till the last 1st gen taco dies.

And then you have the Honda Ridgeline...

Seriously the butt of the truck world. It looks like they were halfway done building an Odyssey and then the Engineers forgot they were supposed to be building a pickup truck and not a soccer mom van.
