What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Yes epoxy, stuff labeled for use on plastic. I think If I was to do it again I would probably just used some calking, or silicone sealant. Wire holds it together the epoxy just makes it air tight. The wire is just coat hanger wire. I drilled holes in both parts and fed the wire through from the inside.

 

So does anyone recommend a cheaper alternative to the OEM carrier bearing? Not trying to pay as much for the bearing Asia would cost to powder coat my bumper and rack lol

 

I had mine for over a year now and no issues. Not lining up perfect I understand but they are rubber mounts for those bolts so a little bit or prying makes it work. They are a cheap plastic too. To each thier own. hopefully I’ll be able to upgrade to a cylinder style air filter I’ve seen LT guys run. Still researching it tho.

Do you have a lift and/or larger tires? If so, you might consider IEDLS poly carrier bearing -> this one worked for me -> 211590-1XS
Note:
Depending on your driveline angles, you may have to flip how the IEDLS cb is mounted and fab up a bar so the bushing doesn't pop out the top.
I also had to use washer shims to push the angles down. Mark your flanges BEFORE taking driveline apart.
Also, my u-joint closest to the pinion got clogged with shizznit and needle bearings rusted.



If you do change your carrier bearing, make sure you get 1 or 2 of the stake nuts and some PB Blaster.

 

Is it bad I don't hate this? I'm thinking about the look for my other '98.

Ignore the Camber I will never do that to any vehicle.

I like it minus the wheels, a bit of neg camber, say 5 degrees is okay and looks decent. Helps tuck the wheels

 

Been looking at BMW takeoffs - hard to find some wheels with the same bolt pattern. It's 5x4.5 I think?

 

Super common pattern, Chrysler sedans, 300, Challenger, Charger all use that pattern, most GMs. Shouldn't be hard to find wheels for that pattern

 

What I'm worried about is the center bore and backspacing - if that becomes an issue.

 

Center bore isn't of much concern, most cars are lug centric, just use a large bore wheel. Backspacing is an art, especially on a slammed vehicle, get some wide ass shit and make it fit, roll fenders, shorten arms, alter turn radius haha

 

I don't like that they took a good front end and converted to a 4runner front end.

 

Think I should do an engine swap or keep the v6 and rebuild it? It's the original 5VZ that has 450k on it. No issues on the truck besides the EGR being clogged as far as I know.

 

Totally didn't realize that was a T4R front end. Thought it was a '98 2WD front end with the flat turn signals.

 

Got my leafs in the mail today, just waiting on coils and shocks

 

I would build the 5VZ, sink too much money into swapping in another engine in your state and the 5VZ will have plenty of power in a truck that small.

 

Yeah, that's what I thought. Worth it to rebuild the 450k 5VZ or find one with a quarter of the milage?

 

Yesterday I put new wipers on and my blower motor came in! So I guess I have something to do over the three day weekend. I’ve never used Michelin wipers before; I usually buy Bosch. They seemed like they’d be pretty good though and definitely better than the ones that were on it haha

 

If you can find a later one that would be cool. Most of the later ones don't have EGR which is good, you can just fool your computer with a 10k ohm resistor and be good to go.
