I wish I knew how to weld! I had my local weld shop do it. Did it pretty cheap. Looked at a welder at home depot. The thing is I don't know how much more stuff I need welding. Didn't want my truck to be the test project. I payed $75 for the added plates, light tabs, and light bar notched and welded.

I'll be in the same boat when I get my TG gear. Buy a welder or have someone else do it? I hear the best deals on weldering gear are at pawn shops right now, but you can't beat $75 for that work.

How much is it going to cost you to get the springs powdercoated?

The springs on the donahoes I bought need to be done.

So i've been tossing around the idea of a roof rack... but here are my concerns

    I want to:
-retain use of my tool box
-retain use of my bike mounts on the lid
-still have enough room up top for the handlebars

I'd be using it for camping gear and such so nothing heavy just like sleeping bags/tarps/bike wheels while i have them mounted/etc so I would probably use like 1in pipe or something similar, nothing crazy

    thoughts?

So far so good. I've thrown some lumber in there, few bags of sand, pine straw, a body or two, etc. nothing too crazy, but so far still looks like the day I sprayed it. Granted its only been a month or so. In a few weeks I'll be moving some brick pavers and gravel in the bed. That'll be the real test on its durability. But then again, if it starts flaking out on me in a year or so, I'll just spray on another can. :D

First off, cool name. Second, why would you do all this instead of some Thule bars and one of those cargo cagey thingies? I like what you have mocked up however. I want to do something like this over my softopper.

It does not look bad, but I think with the thin material you will get a lot of vibration, even if there is nothing heavy on it, actually especially if there is not anything heavy on it. I don't know if you have seen the video of the Tacoma bridge (google/youtube it if you haven't) Same effect - Once it starts to oscilate due to the vibration it will just be amplified and get worse until it rips it right off the bed.

I remember my physics teacher showing me that video. I was wigging out wondering how the hell asphalt was just wiggling away like that, and all due to what like strong wind? That poor dog out in that car on the bridge lol.
