What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Tried out the wildernest last night. Pretty cool topper/camper.

Why not just have someone you know in the business put you in contact with a lien sale company. I did this with a few old VWs that I had no titles for back in the 90's. They did all the leg work and the "lien" was for storage

 

a good body shop can fix it...

 

Think doing the Lien thing would be better than trying to contact the individual and getting a duplicate title? I don't really know anyone in the business.

It was the same story the person the owned them lost the title and never registered them in their name. They never remember who they bought them from. So after calling the police to make sure the VINs were clear I'd drag them home and start the lien process if they were going to be resold. Some of them just got the sawzall and were parted out

 

Just glad it could go somewhere where it could be used

 

I plan on selling the truck once I get it restored. Can you elaborate on the Lien process?

The thing that concerns me is the seller disclosed to me that his cousin who bought the truck released liability into his name so I don't know if that affects anything. The ticket I found still states the original owner as the "lessee" and the cousin was cited as the driver for driving with expired tags and no insurance.

 

All I know is that back in the day is was not something just anyone could do: You could make up a story about storing it and how they never came back to pick it up. Companies like this do all the leg work of trying to contact the last owners and when it's done you have documents to take to DMV to register the vehicle

What company did you use to file the liens on your own vehicles? I'm reading into that website and it seems like it's meant for dealers or tow companies.

I did pay for the vehicle, and I did tow the vehicle myself, and it is stored on my property with work done to it so maybe that has to mean something.

 

Maybe stop wasting time and visit a lawyer.

I went thru the same thing years ago.

Paid a lawyer $50. A week later I had my title.

 

$50? Seems a little low... don't most lawyers charge by the hour?

What was the story with getting your title?

 

I bought a truck the owner said he had the title when I got there he said he couldn't find it but would mail it to me. I took the last registration paper out of the glove box and used the info on that to fill out registration form 227 then had a friend sign the guys name. Went into aaa and got the truck into my name without a problem

Same as yours. Got a bill of sale. Waiting fir seller to send me title because he couldn't find it. He then died on me.

It was 15 years ago. I don't know what the cost is now.

If your work offers a leagal plan, sign up for it and use this.

 

Thing about California is the 227 requires a Notary to be present when filling it out.

I'm not making my state sound any better...

 

I have never had one notarized and haven't had a issue I'm also in cali and haven't had a issue and have registered a few cars this way

 

Really? I'm looking at the 227 right now and there's a spot for a Notary signature and certification on the bottom. Says above the 'owner' signature section that a Notary must be present in order for it to be valid.

As long as there isn't currently a lien or loan out on the truck you shouldn't need to get it notarized.
