What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Don't let me do it to a mustang especially a newer one. Cause i'll use a blowtorch lol. I really hate modern day muscle cars. If you like them cool but I don't. Gimme a 1970 charger or any muscle car in that era lol.

I was scared for my life but knew that if i screwed up a tad it wouldn't matter since there was a whole new panel going over that area.

I like them but would take a car from the 60s over one in a heartbeat. The newest thing I own is my 2001 Cobra and that car is bare bones when it comes to "features"

 

I prefer my new roof rack to any other really. Need to just add the rubber to the roof and then can strap the maxxtracks down. only thing worth putting up there IMO. Everything else causes too much drag.

knocked off the surface rust with a flap wheel & sprayed the rear diff/axle with Rustoleum auto primer. That and new leaf spring packs are going back on today.

 

I do wish I could run a roof rack but with the sunroof it doesn't really work.

Was being lazy about swapping axle shafts, seems kinda like a hassle for something I'm sure will happen again. Then happened upon this, I think that would solve the issue...

It's not hard at all. Just measure measure and measure again. Make sure it's where you want, then just add a lot of silicon. Pretty easy, just nerve racking. Once everything is measured up, take a moment and drink a beer before committing haha

 

To keep this comparison apples to apples, this was the 2nd half of a round trip. The first half (going) was at 42 psi and the fuel mileage was 16.2 mpg.

The return trip was a 47 psi and the fuel mileage was 17.8 mpg.

A very poor guess.

Is this with Napa remans of 13WL calipers?

 

That's a good deal. If It was closer and I wasn't already sinking money into a 9 in I would pick that up.

Be some welding to get er on but meh. If its clean Id do it. Cheaper than doing new axles and bearings. Hell new bearings cost more than that

 

I can lock it later though, when I get back to PHX I'll pick it up for later use, get the added bonus of rear disc brakes and parking brake would still work too. Full float seems like it would solve some headaches real fast. Plus the rear wheel bearings are super easy to do in these too.

Flexplate right? After I did my 4x4 conversion everyone was telling me the squealing noise was just my inspection cover rubbing on the flex plate.

It was not. I was driving about 40 MPH home on a major intersection when my flexplate decided to implode and I lost all power to the truck. I barely coasted into a parking lot.

You did not want to hear the noise it made when I tried to start it to drive it onto the tow truck.

wasn't sure if it would still apply in the situation you were describing so I didn't want to comment on that part, lol. @what road did your noise go away? If it's still there then it's gotta be the TOB I would imagine. Assuming this is the same noise you were talking about the other day.

 

I think it would, they’re both still rotating masses. If the inspection cover was rubbing on it, you’d definitely hear the same noise.

I’d like to see a Flywheel shatter though. The Flexplates are like tin foil compared to a Flywheel.
