What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I've heard that some aftermarket ones don't last long, the rubber especially as well as the bearing. I've heard some people try to regrease them every so often so they last longer but that won't do anything for the rubber aging. I don't think mine is bad but the rubber is starting to crack. That's pretty good life for 17yrs.

I don't plan on selling my truck so I don't want to have to do this again in only a few yrs from now & I don't want to mess around with finding out which aftermarket ones are good & which are junk. I'm not one of those hardcore use OEM parts only kind of guys but when it comes to stuff like this I'll stick with OEM especially knowing how long the OEM lasts.

I would just go buy one from Napa or Oriellys or something. They aren’t that bad to change, and warranty so.

 

Kinda hard to explain as I'm also dealing with warped rotors and a steering shimmy. (Hoping that when I do the inner and outer tie rods when I get back from mammoth that my steering will be resolved and its not a worn out rack)

Anyways, I had a very annoying shake/ wobble between 60 and 70. At first I thought it was coming from the rear end but I narrowed down the shake mainly being felt in the center of my truck. Mostly the entire cab. My fiance could feel it in the passenger seat as well. When I disassembled the drive shaft and spun the bearing on the shaft, it rotated in an oval around the shaft and would spin about 15-20 rotations. New bearing is centered and wont spin more than 1 rotation. Now my cab is dead steady but I still feel the shimmy in the steering. Hope that helps!

I'm on a Moog ujoint first one changed on this truck. It fits lol but idk about it's durability yet.

 

Can anyone recommend a good storage cover? Want to put something over the 5-lug while I let it sit so they Seagulls don't shit all over it.

 

I don't have experience with their ujoints but Moog makes good parts. I'm running their lower ball joints. I also bought the uppers but ended up going with uniball UCAs. The Moog ball joints are nice cause they have zerk fittings. One of Moog's manufacturing plants is down the street from me

 

I went 555 on tie rods and lbj's but I knew I was going LT in a couple of months so I decided to save some money. Hate on me if you must but I'm sorry regardless

Lol, I don't hate on anyone for whatever they do or use on their trucks. Everyone is different, different reasons for what parts they use, whether finacially or whatever. Like for example some OEM parts are so expensive it's not worth paying for a vehicle so old.

I was just saying the Moog makes good parts in general & I like their ball joints. One of my stock lowers seized up from no grease, broke the cotter pin, & the nut spun loose. So lucky I noticed it before the damn thing popped out of the spindle.

 

He already gave me shit along with several others. Lol and the lbj's are ok for my needs right now but I'm getting some oem tie rods when I go LT since I'm going to be messing with the steering anyways.

I believe you. I knew my uppers were bad for a while & have always been scared one would break. Everytime they got wet from rain or a wash I couldfeel one of them clunking. Finally a few weeks ago I put on uniballs/UCAs so now I feel much better. The driver side stock upper was so loose it just floped around & I could pull up & down on it like crazy.
