What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

We don’t have this problem because 99% of the Tacomas here are 5-Lugs or base PreRunners.

I rarely see 4x4 trucks driving around. They’re simply unnecessary here which is why there’s such a huge 5-lug population.

 

I think I've only seen 3, five luggers in my life around here.

It has to be less than that, if it actually got 2hp doing that I could put K&N out of business. But it's nice peace if mind

Been road tripping around NY & now into VT with my Honda Rebel in the back after all the work - ride much rougher now.

But here's a question I've noticed and my GF too driving it.... on frost heaves or continuous cracks across the roadway not only does it 'bounce', but it also feels like it lurches forward, followed by an immediate jerk back. This is not a sensation I've ever noticed b4. Any ideas???

PS... rented & driving this monster of American Iron. The motor is only 6x that of my Rebel!

 

Speaking of K&N...
What is everyone's take/experience with long tube headers? I read only noticeable difference is with a cai. Anyone have them with a deckplate mod?

HOT. I would need a gofundme account to afford it though. It would be so nice to have one across my double cab and camper shell.

 

I had one get "closed" with the door open, and I had to insert a Phillips screwdriver into the area where the round rod would normally go when the door is closed, then open with the handle, and move the screwdriver to change the position of the latch mechanism. Don't recall that this was on a Tacoma, but might work....

Also, I have cheap $18 led stick on strips meant for motorcycles I plan on using until I find a better permanent solution.

 

Complete opposite problem as us, 4WD is imperative, as I can imagine, in the winter. Our winter lasts two months. LOL.

I have plenty of salt, don’t worry. The land around my subdivision are salt flats. Haha.

 

Replaced steering rack guide & spring today. I had crazy play in my steering wheel. Eventually I thought it had to be the steering column shaft but when I checked it, surprisingly that wasn't it, I may do the fix later anyway.

All the play was at the pinion input shaft. Pulled out the original guide which wasn't worn at all, measured exactly the same as the new one so I was kinda bummed. After installing the new guide & spring, dayum, all the play is gone now! Either the spring wore out or just needed to readjust the preload.

Also finally bought a nutsert tool. Got tired of my damn ballasts falling off every summer when the double sided tape got too hot.

 

Installed a bed slide today on my double cab tacoma. Perfect fit.
