Replaced the LEDs in my Cobra 75WXST. Came out a little darker orange & brighter output than I wanted but I still like it better than the green. I don't like to run my dash lights full brightness so I prefer the CB to be more dim also. It'll do for now until the next time I need to order more electronics stuff.

If he bought it here in Cali, then he could be the second owner.

Just an old Hakko 936. Thing has never let me down & is what we all used at my old work too. Hakko doesn't make em anymore but there are many clones of it. I also have a Hakko desoldering gun (xmas present from my bro) but I didn't use it to do this, just used good ole solder wick.

You're lucky there's nothing besides those SMD pads there. When the oscillator crystal chip fell off my Odometer module, it was next to impossible to reattach it with a proper hot air rework station. I was impatient and used my normal Weller iron and I globbed solder on the pins of the main IC.

Unfortunate situation for me. So I sent it to the expert @mechanicjon to get it up and running for me. He managed to hook up the Yazaki IC chip the odometer data is stored on, and connect it to the serial port of his PC to re-write the mileage.

If that goddamn oscillator chip didn't fall off the odometer module, it would've taken me 30 seconds to swap the correct mileage into my new cluster.

    But it's never that easy.

You need the patience of a saint to transfer that damn oscillator chip.

It's also shockingly easy to commit odometer fraud on these trucks. Just go to the junkyard and find an odometer with less mileage than what's on the truck, and swap the module. It's two screws and a ribbon cable.

You wouldn't believe some of the things I can do with a soldering iron. Let alone proper rework equipment. I used to build/mod custom LED flashlights also, modified drivers & such. Also how I got into metal machining. That CB mod was a piece of cake, 0603 LEDs.
