You're going to run into another problem as the VT plates won't go very far in CA. It's supposed to be registered within 20 days of being in CA. If you have a neighbor that hates you they could turn you in for being a registration scofflaw. It's likely that truck is just generating back penalties when you do register it.

Just throw down a coat of auto enamel and call it a day. It won't rust through where you live, the paint is gone cause the carpet rubs it off, and it'll rub the rust off too haha

I rarely see the same mechanic more than twice. Haven't found "the one" yet. Also, thankful I drive a truck that doesn't need to see one often, and I have ambition to at least research the issue first if not fix it myself. Used to request a guy at out local dealer to work on the 22RE but he has since moved to another dealer, along with all the other good techs it seems. Place has gone downhill since 2015 it seems. Come to think of it, the Service manager at this place quit too not to long ago. Bunch of newbie young techs, and service advisors who dont even know what they are selling you.

If I can't transfer it into California without hassle, then I'm scrapping it. Plain and simple. Go back to my idea of making a bed trailer.

Just sell it to someone in a less crappy state, you'll make more money and you already have a trailer

Just weld the bed sides on and sell it to a pool man or some gardeners. It would seem almost insane at this point to make a trailer out of it.

Plus it would make a pretty ugly trailer.

Nothing is stopping me from selling it with the Vermont tags and Registration, if you go on the CA Craigslist you'll see lots of cars - dealers and private parties alike selling vehicles with Vermont tags in California using the same method I used.

    Some examples:

    1993 Lancia Evo

    https://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/ctd/d/1993-lancia-evo-ii-delta/6710032255.html

    1992 Maserati Shamal

    https://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/ctd/d/1992-maserati-shamal-v8/6701576355.html

"All import paperwork is in order. Please note this car comes with a valid Vermont registration, Vermont plates and a bill of sale. Please note that Vermont does not produce titles for cars that are more than 15 years old. (for more information visit http://dmv.vermont.gov/tax-title/vehicle-title) . Please check local regulations for what is needed to transfer a vehicle from Vermont."

    1967 Ford Thunderbird

    https://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/d/1967-ford-thunderbird-car/6689890920.html

"We registured this car in the vermont dmv system. We just got done using this car in hot august nights here in reno nv."

    2001 Toyota Tacoma

    https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/d/2001-toyota-tacoma-for-parts/6708070830.html

"Vermont does not title vehicles older than 15 years (you can look it up), but I have the registration to sign over which is the equivalent and is accepted by CA and all other states."

Right now the plan is make it back to stock condition, and do exactly that. Throw it on Craigslist.

They are some nice looking wheels.

I found that most of the Vermont reg'd cars are exotic imported cars that just passed the 25 year import restriction.
