Hit the gym and curse at that filter like it just did nasty things to your mother

 

You guys must be over-tightening your filters if they're that hard to remove.

 

I did the same thing, over tightening...

What I failed to do was to not put oil on the rubber gasket, made is super tough to remove.
I had to phone a friend.

 

I always add oil to the gasket. Lol this has only happened this time.

 

They’re all hand tight on cars I own. I work on a lot of other cars and they’re damn hard to remove, almost like they somehow used and impact to screw it on. Those oil filter sockets are a godsend.

 

I always like to pre-fill the filter too. Don’t want to run the engine dry for that second or two.

 

Musically *it makes absolutely no difference*

 

I have a shop down the street that charges $7 if you bring your own oil. Went to it a few times after surgery. I specifically would tell them not to tighten to much...nope...always hella tight. Or ill swing by of its a rainy day. Im super anal about my oil changes. Every 5k

Oh well, that’s what I was taught by an ASE Master Tech at my local trade school. So it makes no difference, okay. At least it lubricates the rubber gasket.

 

I added a new basket to my bed rack. Added an old lightbar to the rear that I didn't like up front. The plan is to store my spare tires on top.

 

It's an old "feel good" technique, usually just ends up making a huge fucking mess on non vertical mounted filters. Your oil pump pushes oil through the oil filter, it doesn't draw through it and they push enough volume that it fills fast. The oil film from the last run of the engine is more than enough to safely let the engine run while everything primes itself.

 

I've wondered about this...whenever I do my oil when I go to start the truck, the low oil pressure light illuminates for a second or two before going off. Back when I used to get my oil done at the drive thru shops that never happened. I figured it was probably because I spend more time letting all the old oil drain out than they do.

I haven't concerned myself too much with it but I wonder if putting oil in the filter would make a difference there

 

I guess it’s one of those debatable things that people like to argue about. For me, it’s what I was taught in school so I will continue to do it. It doesn’t really matter for me since I have to lubricate the gasket anyhow.

 

I'll try it next time and see if it keeps the light from coming on right away. The oil change write ups I referenced before doing it myself the first time never mentioned pre-filling the oil filter so I didn't think to, only saw it mentioned here a few times afterward.

 

I just dip my finger in my old oil and run it around the gasket.

Like I said, I don’t really care doing it. It’s what I was taught and it doesn’t take much effort.

 

Same, sometimes if I'm feeling fancy I dip it in the new oil

 

Mostly letting you know you can save your time and a mess
