What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Thanks! It’s been great. Seeing your truck with it is what sold me on it. 3 years later still my favorite purchase.

 

Took the truck out for some play time. Guess I need to strap my gas can down better

 

Started the build of my CBI Moab DIY bumper. More noodling, measuring, and test fitting than anything else, once I got the old bumper and brush guard removed. Real work gets going tomorrow.

 

Not that I have seen, I use the flange head bolts and they have worked great.

 

You get yours from the dealership or someplace else? Cost?

I have been shopping for a new valve body, but am waiting till march. Worst case I send mine out for 2 weeks.

Wht does the Transgo entail?

I ordered this one on Friday.


It's the mildest shift kit from Trans-go. Says you don't need any special tools or machine work to install.

They say the recommend installation by an "experienced technician." I'm hoping I can fumble my way through it without fucking it up too bad lol.

 

Trans shift kits really aren't terrible. If you have worked on vehicles for long, you'll probably be just fine. Just pay attention to the details.

 

I've done a lot of work on vehicles, but transmissions scare me.

 

Yeah, I would rather just get another one from Marlin and give him mine.

 

Same here, til I rebuilt the 700R4 in my S10. I am not calling myself a transmission tech by any stretch of the imagination, but I know how that one works, now.

I have the same transmission in my 90 XJ that the Tacomas have- an AW4- and when time comes to work on it, I'll be doing the rebuild. Already got the documentation lined up

 

You do know you can "flush" a transmission using a fluid exchange machine which uses the natural pressure of the transmission to swap out old fluid for new fluid completely. It won't knock anything loose or cause issues. Now if your fluid is completely black and burnt then you might not want to mess with it.

Sweeet! ADS units look very stout...hint on price???

 

184-190 is what I am at. I guess a lot of people run around 205-210... Jiggle valve in the 6 oclock position helps lower the temps

 

The needle on 99% of vehicles will read normal until its already overheated.

 

You're definitely good. Next time you mess with the t-stat check it's position
