guy bought them because he was going to keep the truck for himself. But i guess he needed the money and sold it. He didn't have the oem ones which is a bummer.

its just something I should probably keep an eye on/ear out for at this age (on the originals still), i actually had my radio volume low enough one day while driving through the olde part of of town that still has the ancient brick streets and was hearing a creak eeerk creak traveling slowly in 1st

the starters in these trucks must be tough as nails with all the heavy clutch-start-canceling use I recently read about

going to the paint store to find some 'safe' stripper to use to take the coating off of these center caps and paint it black (emblem color is still TBD)
or should i try to smooth the chipped parts off (salvaged caps) and paint black over the coating :notsure:

edit: sandpaper is best option, no stripper(s)

No need to strip them just get some sand paper, sand smooth and paint. You dont even have to sand the paint off just sand to get a smooth surface

    I have mods
Agreed. You won't find a paint stripper that won't melt the plastic. Just sand them or do as @turbodb did and media blast them. Sanding would probably be your best bet tho.

i replaced all the rubber on my truck about a year ago. the LCA bushings were the most labor intensive. using the torch and jack method was fun. PM me if interested in some detailed pics that might help if its your first time.

this looks good, does the entire finish on these caps have to be removed or just loose pieces?

the pro paint shop told me most all stripping materials for pros (mostly for wood & varnish, etc) has been outlawed by the government
picked up some 150 grit paper to get crackin onit in spare time
these caps are going to be most likely used on the winter wheels/tires so smoothness is not paramount, just gotta find the proper paint that will last longer the better
