I think mine does this due to heat. Why I want to add a inline passive cooler. Notice it's very wet on hot days and wheeling.

    Yeah, normally they're around $80!

I got the rear one several months ago for $14. That one's normally around $50. Been watching ever since then to see if the front ones show up for a crazy low price and it finally did!

I ran one for about a year, threw it away because it let too much fine dirt/dust through. Could run my finger behind it and get a layer of dirt on it. Went back to OEM paper filters and don't experience that anymore.

I don't remember it looking torn up though

I used to wash mine by letting it soak in a mild Simple Green solution then dry it out overnight before putting back in. Didn't see the fabric ever tear though.

Paper ones are cheap enough and usually last more than one trip unless it's a really dusty one.

Washing an air filter? Seems like a lot of work, when paper ones can be had for $10-15 bucks.

I never did mine after every trip, maybe just once every 4-6 weeks depending on how bad it got. But yeah it just isn't worth the trouble but once I saw the dirt in the intake tube behind the filter, I threw it away.

I think I need to change the OEM paper air filter every 30K regardless that no off road trips ... correct ?

Honesty I don't know, mine gets changed about every ~5k or less from getting too dirty lol. I thought the regular interval was 15k or maybe it's 30k.

I have the aFe dry filter. I take it out each oil change, bang it on end against the pavement then I take the vacuum cleaner with the corner attachment to it. Done this for a couple years. Looks basically new, no problems.

I’m guessing with the dry/dessert conditions you guys out west encounter that maybe the aftermarket “performance” filters aren’t good in that environment.

Thats a little extreme imo. Mine dont even begin to look dirty until 10k has rolled by. Even then Ill blow them out with the compressor before I replace at 20k.
