What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I am inching closer to my turbo build. I have a bunch of hoard accumulated, but today I got the last big piece to the puzzle, a Tial exhaust housing for the 35r.

I'd recommend doing an analysis before going to long. If you have metals in there that will cause more wear, changing your oil sooner will be better.

I'm no HVAC tech but all the bends and longer length could possibly negate that.

 

Didn’t take any pics but just changed out the drivers side power window assembly. Ridiculously simple, finished in about half an hour? Didn’t even have time for a beer break. So now I drink a beer happy I can roll my window and go through the drive through again

 

I'm guessing he's talking about the 2004 that's listed in his signature. I would really hope that a 2019 wouldn't need the window assembly to be replaced already...

Edit: even then, not reading it, that 7500 number us Toyotas recommended intervals on conventional oil, I was just passing along the info. Not my opinion

My filter was dusty after following to closely and being in the back of the pack.. But I think it looks awesome!! And it gets such polarized responses from people. ​

 

Spent Last Wednesday afternoon and Thursday installing a new Fan bearing on my 04 DC. Who ever said working on these 1st gens is easy, must have never worked on a 1960-1980 GM product. Man those vehicles were stupid simple to work on. Then I spent Friday until today recovering. But this task is done, and time to move on. I have some nice weather coming my way this weekend, so it's time to tackle the Lower Ball joints and new inner and outer tie rods. Wish me luck, I know this job isn't that hard from watching Timmy the Tool Man Video's.

 

1st gens don't have that problem (or shouldn't)

why is your radiator hose still hooked up?
i thought that has to come off to get all of this area opened up

New CV axles after the original boots gave out and ripped

 

Looks like the shock bushings are toast. Or maybe not yet

 

Def. And part's store cv's are known to be at risk for higher chance of breakage but if you aren't rock crawling it's not as big of a deal.

 

No rock crawling or major offroading here. NAPA axles are Cardone and have a lifetime warranty. I was told I might just have to replace more often. Will probably just reboot the original axles and put those back on.

 

Then you should be more than fine.

From what I understood it was less about strength and more about aftermarket axle articulation and when it binds compared to OEM axles. For me someone who rock crawls, on 35's with a front locker, it's hard to accept much else than OEM since I can find them pretty cheap compared to aftermarket with proven strength. I do have a parts store axle sitting in my spares case out of desperation on a trip, but haven't needed to install and test it. It's a last resort axle for me since I have two other OEM's sitting in the garage ready for rebooting.

 

Also the boots are what you have to watch out for with aftermarket axles. Some are better than others but the dirt cheap ones you get from Autozone have boots that tear if you just look at them wrong. Went through that headache a few times recently. Just picked up an OEM reman axle through Toyota last week that I'm looking forward to putting in. Much cheaper than brand new OEM and you get the good Toyota boots with them.

 

@GQ7227 , That pic was taken after the new bearing was in place, I had the hose in place so I didn't loose any more coolant, and I had to take one end off and back on too many times, live and learn. Plus I took the timing belt cover off so I could have a look at everything under there. Who ever designed the adjustment bolt location for the Power steering pump and alternator should be kicked in the nuts 2 or 3 times.
