    My air filter gets far less packed with dust on trails now vs when it was stock. Hitting the filter against my hand after a trail when the intake was stock resulted in a ton more dust coming out of it. You can doubt me if you want, but it's true.

    The one thing you do get more of in your filter with a snorkel though are bugs.

    I have taken my truck into a water crossing that was up to the hood, I'm sure the cool looking snorkel helped a little bit. But yes, I initially installed it for looks, and I was hoping to get cooler air for when I had a super charger.

    How do you run a liner once you trim or bend your fenders? Also depending on your size tires and lift. Once you take it on certain trail your tires would get tucked into the wheel well on some obstacles. With a liner there you would sang on the liner eventually or hit it every time.

    But do what your experiences permits :)

    Driving on the highway from Bakersfield to the Sierras last Spring was miles and miles of farm land, there was what looked like a plague of grasshoppers and then bees for one stretch. When I got to where it was clear and checked my filter I had to empty it of all those little bastards lol. I guess getting a pre-filter style head for the snorkel would help keep that from happening

    last 2 changes i have went WAY past what i have normally done for the past 22.5 years
    4.6k this time and about nearly the same the time before = 1 missed oil change on standard 3k interval

    In the owners manual Toyota specifies the oil should be changed at 7500 miles.

    Use 7,500-mile oil change intervals if you
    primarily operate your Toyota under
    light, non-commercial duty for distances
    greater than five miles

    It is very common for owners to change the oil way sooner than needed. This has also been proven through multiple multiple analysis of oil samples from the oil change. People can't shake that mindset from the old days, when shops conditioned everyone to believe they needed to do oil changes every 3k miles, if they truly loved their vehicle that is :jerkoff:.....
    It's BS. And that owner manual I copied and pasted was from Toyota in 1997. Oil technology has improved leaps and bounds over last two decades. And the testing and analysis proves it. I believe many of today's OCI are recommended at 10k miles.
    I've personally monitored and tested and analyzed mine. My last test/analysis was of a sample from 9k miles, Mobil 1 euro spec 0w-40. The numbers were all great, I was close to having consumed all of the additive package(the protection stuff, detergents, etc). I could try a run to 10k but I think that 7500 mile number Toyota instructed us to use is pretty spot on with the numbers and results I've seen from testing. :D:cool:

    Edit: and I could care less how often or not anybody changes their oil. Just want people to have the information and then they can decide if they wanna quit lining the oil companies pockets.... :rofl:

    i am still under the mindset of the early 90s ways and 3k intervals on the conventional oil, + having seen some nasty looking engines back then come into the quick lube shop!

    @1997tacomav6 puts mega miles on his per month, i am curious what his approximate regular interval is over the same time period i have had my truck!

    a lot of replies about cooler air or less dusty air. one I haven't seen mentioned is better air flow. That inlet facing forward is definitely sucking in more air than the little stock tube hidden in the wheel well with a liner over it facing aft. Just a thought.

    Yes most guys your age are stuck in that. That's exactly the point of the post. Stay stuck in it or come to terms with reality of today's oil. Dont trust me though, do your own research! You can find TONS of oil info on bobistheoilguy.com(actual forum and website btw lolol}

    I’ve mainly been in fords trucks and commonly change oil every 5k miles. Of course always going back with FoMoCo. Usually do 3k on smaller vehicles.

    ALL OF THEM!...Then some more.
    I...highly doubt that. Not enough to matter anyways. One could also equally argue that by adding more tubing and bends you are restricting flow more. I think its a mute point.


    The real reason "cleaner air" is taken in is that the stock intake is right about the tire. So when you're driving dusty shit it sucking in a lot of dust from your own driving.

    Either way. I think its more a looks thing than anything and if you like it. Rock it.

    I'd recommend doing an analysis before going to long. If you have metals in there that will cause more wear, changing your oil sooner will be better.

    I'm no HVAC tech but all the bends and longer length could possibly negate that.

    Didn’t take any pics but just changed out the drivers side power window assembly. Ridiculously simple, finished in about half an hour? Didn’t even have time for a beer break. So now I drink a beer happy I can roll my window and go through the drive through again :)
