I like the a340, way more than the new Tacoma 6 speed auto.

The Manual is superior though. I’m still torn on building my A340 or manual swap the 01.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

Wouldn't you want to control the wheel speed in mud and snow?

    I'm pretty sure you do.

The ways to make the "manual superior" are doublers etc... which isn't making the manual trans "superior" to an auto trans... it's adding a doubler to a manual transmission to make it not suck.

New trucks feel sluggish compared to the 4.0 with the 5 speed auto.

and it seriously can never figure out what gear it wants (but they do get better once you drive it for a while, remember I only drive trucks with like 2 miles on them so the computer hasn’t learned driving habits yet)

I'm able to control wheel speed just fine with a manual...the only time I'm not necessarily able to is in extreme slow crawl situations where you have to feather the clutch to keep from stalling. In snow, mud, sand, etc 90% of the time I can keep it in 1st gear and have enough range in speed to get through it.
I feel like people think manual drivers must constantly be shifting non stop when offroading. That's not the case at all and if I do need to shift 99% of the time there's no issue from it. Feathering the clutch on extreme slow crawling/climbing scenarios is the only time I really have to do footwork.

In my case I'm talking 4lo and slow stuff... High speed wheeling isn't my thing so I can't comment on the matter with that.

I've done a mod or two
The folks who comment on it being a clutch burner or being a pain to find a range just haven't done it and if they have they were really bad at it. With how much power and response is robbed with the a340 I wouldn't want one whether or not I was off roading. It really isn't hard to not burn your clutch, and I've never had any tougher time than anyone else. My auto in the LC deadens everything, almost makes it boring, part of the fun of these trucks is they're lite and you can hoon them around at high RPM with quick response on the manual. Plus hitting 50mp in 5th gear in 4low is a blast, so are 4low launches.

Its the reason I usually avoid the manual vs auto topic especially in this thread haha

It's really just about personal preference, whichever one you prefer you're obviously going to excel at eventually and will likely feel strongly about. But it really does just come down to preference initially.

At the end of the day we're all 1st gen Tacoma enthusiasts...at least we aren't out wheeling Chevys

You sure that's all you axed? I thought you asked in your post for everyone's personal take on whether or not you should do a transmission swap to manual and everyone's perceived pros and cons as well?
Huh, couldn't find that in your post. I must be imagining things.... Or you did a ninja edit:D:rofl:

I'm imagining the auto guys thinking they've really reinvented the wheel with all the ways they're just pushing the gas pedal differently and it's making me laugh.

Neither one crawls well until you throw a crawlbox in. Just sayin.

I've got a manual and I've got an auto. Granted my wheeling rig is the auto and it's not an apples to apples comparison to the manual Taco. I prefer to crawl in an auto. I prefer to go fast on dirt with a manual. That's why I have both. lol
