What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

So all the bolts around the passenger side and across the front were finger tight. Guess that explains the leak.

 

Yea I had Dakars a few years ago, then Dakars + AAL. Even with the AAL they wouldn't hold a full bed of camping gear + RTT without sagging onto the bump stops. Also they were crazy noisy but it was the weight issue that bothered me most

 

The leak actually explains that lol... The rubber hardens and shrinks over time from oil exposure, leaving your covers loose.

 

Lol. That makes sense.

The ones on the intake side were still tight, probably because the engine tilts.



Is there a way to tell from the cam chain tensioner what condition the chain is in? I haven't gotten inside to go through the book yet.

 

It's a hydro assisted tensioner, I never had mine clatter and I had 265k on it. If they stretch enough to cause problems you'll get a timing CEL first.

 

I was thinking that as the chain wore more of it would be visible.

No cels though, aside from the downstream o2 sensor one whenever I go down a bumpy road or a large puddle.

 

yea I was thinking about getting an AAL when my pack gets worse, but I feel like that would be kind of a band-aid fix.

 

Wondering if you guys could help me out. I made a thread for this already but this particular area of the website is so much more active....I figured I'd get a faster response here.

I need help piecing together a TRD header install kit. Nut, studs, gaskets, etc. I have no experience with exhaust stuff and just need a bit of direction for the most trustworthy parts. I already disassembled the OEM stuff.

 

The most trustworthy parts would be OEM, i'd say. Idk if anyone makes an exhaust "kit" like that.
If you go to your local Toyota dealer parts department and ask for studs, bolts, and gaskets, i'm sure they will be able to help you out. Or you can go online to some of the parts sites and lookup the part numbers that way too.

I'm sure some other guys on here will be able to provide you with part numbers too, but I would start there.

I could be wrong, but I would think that a TRD header would use the same exhaust studs, bolts, and gaskets as a factory header.

 

What are the specs?

 

3" lift and 350# over stock

 

eh..sorta. The torque spec is only like 7ft/lbs I think. Which is pretty much finger tight. They aren't supposed to be super tight.

 

Winch is functional, solenoids re-mounted, picked up a nice second-hand hawse fairlead and a second-hand remote unit, all I need now is some rope.

 

ive noticed they do "come loose" moreso because of the rubber washer toyota used.. not a single issue on newer toyotas without those buggers, even when the gasket is beyond shot, theyre never loose. any toyota engine with the washers? i dont think ive ever seen one with "tight" bolts

I'd be surprised if you could put 7ft of torque on a 10mm bolt with your finger tips.

I just tighten them until they get loose again.



Or atleast I did that to one on the Rav4 .
