What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Been seeing a bunch of people putting cutting brakes on taco's lately and I'm struggling to figure out why except for "just cause I can" lol

I live on the east coast where we have the tightest trails and non stop trees to dodge and while it might help, I'm doing just fine without it

 

Cam doubt it. Over miles the valve hammers itself deeper into the head, resulting in too tight of tolerances.

 

Yeah, I figured cam seemed unlikely, but I figured I'd ask around.

Makes me wonder if the last guy to adjust it did it right. The one valve is so tight that there is no varnish on the round backside of its cam lobe.

 

Not sure about the 98 model years again, but in 02 the 4runner gray looks nothing like Tacoma 02 charcoal.

I know as I have some of these as well laying around the house now that need a new home!


Already modified to fit Tacoma's btw if anyone is interested.. just drill one hole for the passenger outside rear mount and enjoy the improved oem ergonomics!

 

Its all grey similar to 01-04 Taco grey. The lighting in pictures can make the tan and grey almost look like the same color in these trucks. But yes the door panels have carpet inserts. The 4Runner black column trim and steering wheel is a huge aesthetic upgrade imo. Breaks up the tan/grey.

Mines an IS300 wheel but it has the same look.

 

That’s what I’ve been seeing. Most likely will put seat covers on them even when I get them. Maybe do racing seats

I had another one in my hands at the junkyard the other day. Decided against it cause people can be so picky about how perfect a 20 year old steering wheel looks.

 

Yours is "Oak" (tan) though yeah?! And you saw my photo with the actual "gray" 4runner seat in my "charcoal" Tacoma above for the difference?!!! So same lighting, same photo for the ultimate reference for 2002 comparison.

Similar as they both seems to have a bit of tan in them, but different enough to where I pulled the seats and shopped for SRunner seats for a couple months! Also first thing my wife said when I brought them home - "You got tan seats?"!

I like black too, it always matches any year it seems!

Orange county.. I drove to San Jose 13 hours round trip for my second set of Sport buckets!

It's a great time for a road trip and a beautiful drive!

Racing seats do get pricey but very comfortable in some cases. You also need to factor in a couple hundred extra bucks for tracks since none bolt right in. More money if you get tracks with sliders if you want to be able to adjust your seat still and get into the back of your extra cab.

I've sat in a bunch and the best I have felt are Recaro's for the street and MasterCraft for off road, but these aint cheap by any means. I do think seats and tires are the 2 most important parts of the vehicle that can transform your truck and ride overall. Seats connect your body to the truck, and tires connect your truck to the earth!

After doing both these mods I can easily say Trudy is and feels like a whole new truck. The tires grip like crazy compared to the 15 inch 205 stock donuts, and the seats actually hold me in place now with a bunch of added comfort.

Yeahp, it kinda feels like a Sports truck now and the supercharger has been ordered accordingly!

 

Yeah I remember you had a bit of a fiasco with the muffler shop. But certainly the 2nd cat is a big factor.

In reality, another small truck isnt in my future. Next will be full size.

 

I’ve been looking for another Tacoma just either a really nice prerunner or 4wd before I buy another “low” truck

 

Well, back to the hard start issue. Replaced the FPR. Fuel pressure is holding way better than before after shutoff. Only time will tell if my issue was the FPR.

 

Took the snow tires off and put the ATM tires back on. Does that mean it's spring officially?
