What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

In the recent months, and especially with recent lock down, I’ve upgraded my stereo, had my seatbelts rehabbed, installed a nice ram mount in my oh shit handle, made retrofits, and over the last few days installed 5100’s with ome springs and Dakar AALs, which even with the cap made the truck into a stink bug. Hopefully with some desert runnin and some gear it’ll level out. May have to lift the front... So, not all installed today, but without this giant ship of pirates, none of this would have been possible. Thanks to all!

 

Made my sliders bolt on, since I’m waiting on some parts anyways. I want to have them on for summer wheeling, but want to change them up and powder coat them. And I like removable. I wouldn’t want to do this with a cab on the frame tho.

I jacked up truck with floor jacks to simulate a little more lift. Tires are 31" and this pic shows about 2" lift. Corner lights are out because I did the corner light relocate mod (prepping form plate bumper). Cardboard is under truck because I Fluid Filmed the inside of the frame.

Got the 3rd pulled today, started on a little of the front, will hopefully finish hopefully tomorrow. I'm calling ECGS in the morning to see what the lead time is, hopefully it wont be much over a week.

Thanks to everyone for the input and insight on the regearing, I've gone back to my original thinking of 4.88's. I don't see myself putting 35's on anytime soon, I'm a light truck unless I'm towing and I'd rather have MPG. I've ran 4.10s with 33s for so long I hope that the regear to 4.88's will be all that it's hyped up to be.

 

I find it so hard to get motivated on doing electrical work, I’ve had this stuff for over a year now, put on my work bench a few weeks ago to get it done and I just push it around.

 

The key is to get really drunk first...

I love electrical work. Clean cabling is gorgeous.

 

My dad insisted on rewiring his car with all black wire. Initially, I was skeptical. He made a spreadsheet with every circuit, figured out the approximate lengths, and then labelled both ends of every wire once he nailed down the length. Its beautiful.

 

I agree it is gorgeous! Lol I just want it to be done so I can admire it.

I can't say I love electrical work, but clean cabling is gorgeous and I strive to make it that way.

 

I was solid on 33s and stock gearing. Felt over geared with 4.88s and 33s. 35s and 4.88s is cool on the hwy.

For what i do, i shoulda went 5.29s....yea yea monte....you told me so

 

Building/installing new electrical panels and such is a favorite task of mine.

Troubleshooting on the other hand, is something I despise. Especially when its someone elses work, cause its never done the way I would do it.

 

If they can't give me a schematic, I get very grumpy.

 

Need to find someone closer to me that loves it and will just help me. I don’t really want to pay anyone to do it because I’m plenty capable just need motivation lol

 

What have you got so far? If you get a schematic drawing made, you can just knock it out one piece at a time. I find that being able to see progress (and an endpoint) is a great motivator.

 

Dont become an industrial mechanic then. We dont believe in keeping schematics around. Just gotta pick one relay and start drawing haha.

I sorta went to school for it. Majoring in Industrial Controls and Automation. Heres one I built at home out of stuff I collected from ebay and various industrial scrap yards.

 

Oh man. I've had professors that refuse to help you if you do'nt have a schematic. And in the industry I'm in, having an up to date schematic is an FRA rule.


That said, i've seen pictures of municipal traffic light wiring jobs...some of them are truly awful.
