    But is 1/4 inch really that much of clearance? I drag my diff diaper all over with the peace of mind knowing that its the diaper, not the diff. I know the diff is stout. But still

    Is it just 1/4" when you are increasing the width and length of the anchor that is the rear diff?

    Smittybilt XRC gen 3 w/ synth line. I like having the load indicators to make sure I don't overload the winch. It's a pretty nice product imo.

    You only loose about 5/16th of an inch of ground clearance with a diff skid like Jerry's

    Thanks y'all, looks like synthetic is the way to go. Kinda figured but I wanted to hear what y'all thought. given the price difference I thought it was worth investigating. still not sure on the Smittybilt vs Comeup thing though. i'm often hesitant to buy the cheaper product because i never know what corners have been cut to make it cheaper, kind of a "buy once, cry once" mentality. good to hear that it's worked for y'all. I like the fact that the Comeups have a cone brake that isnt in the drum, which keeps the heat input into the rope down. worth twice the price?:notsure:

    Idk to me I see extra loss on the axle tube for the mounts, and a significantly widened anchor point.

    But just my opinion on the pointy rock garden style terrain I deal with daily. I guess when all you have is smooth rocks it's less of a concern.

    That would suck out here too. The rear diff is the lowest point anyways, I would hate to make it lower.

    Went and got my new SCS wheels and Cooper tires mounted over at tires2go on the recommendation of a couple forum peeps from AZ.

    While I was there, snagged a spare set of front end 4wd parts from @5amStevens. Great guy, thanks again man!

    Gonna be a busy weekend. Get the garage cleaned up, then dig in, fresh steering rack install (before the 4x4 stuff is in the way), swap brake pedals, finish cutting shifter tunnel, work on wiring (extent VSS, wire NSS to various switches... & swap ECU's after a de-pinning)

    Quick shout out and thanks to @scs_vuth for the hookup on wheels and a speedy delivery. Very happy with my wheel and tire choice.

    Thanks again to @Uphillshunter & @Fernando for the recommendation on the tires! They are very meaty and well built. Excited to get them on the trail.

    They used to... now he "redesigned" them and they are listed for 05-15. The actual 3rd member housing should be the same between 1st and 2nd gen with the exception of the drain plug being on the other side.

    I'd like to see if I can find out if it could be made to fit 8 inch e-lock 1st gen... even if I had to cover the drain and use the bottom 3rd member stud location as a drain.

    But it seems there's no interest to find out if it could be made to work on 1st gen. :notsure:

    I've got a terminology question.

    Under chassis lubrication in my owners manual it refers to Front Drive Shaft Thrush Bushings and the recommended grease. What the f--k is a thrust bushing? I've searched the forum with no success.

    When I look at my front drive shaft I see two zerks on the side near the Transfer Case. One zerk is on a Universal Joint, the other is on a Slide Yoke. On the other side of the front drive shaft is another zerk on a Universal Joint. 3 total zerks on the front driveshaft.

    Is Toyota referring to these two Universal Joints and one Slide Yoke as thrust bushings? If so, why refer to the Universal Joints on the rear shaft as "Spiders" and the rear Slide Yoke as a Slide Yoke?
