Just know that that skid doesn't cover the steering rack at all really.

And it might need modified a bit to fit on some bumpers, I had to trim a lot of the front lip off mine to get it to fit.

I just went and read your posts in his thread. I wonder if I can convince a local fab shop to make me an additional piece to cover the steering rack. Not looking forward to seeing how this lines up with my bumper either. I’m hoping yours was a one-off issue since another poster with an ARB had none of the issues your Relentless had lining up.

I kind of doubt it was a one off at least with the Relentless bumper. Its just the way skids attach to it is all.

The down side to extending it is it's Stainless and if you weld on it it compromises the stainless.

But I extended my RAT skid on Frank so it is possible. Just seems silly to not extend it like 4 more inches though and add one more bend.

I was thinking more along the lines of having a piece made that’s 4 more inches with a bend that covers the rack. it’s front mounting point is shared with the skid’s back point. The skid overlaps it and maybe I have to use longer bolts and lose 3/16 ground clearance. Any reason not to do that instead of weld to and extend it?

I'd probably put the extension on first and then the main skid after, will make a smoother bottom for going forward over shit. And I think it would likely rip the bolts out if it was on the bottom.

Otherwise probably work fine. I'd go a couple inches past the mounting holes to make have more leverage over that way.

Cool. So once I get that squared away I can look forward to cutting it up to fit the Elite bumper.

Replaced my pilot bearing today that I suspected of making noise. Last time I pulled it I used the ol’ full the cavity with grease and pound a socket in there that’s just barely smaller than the pilot bearing. Worked great then, didn’t work this time... the bearing seals blew out and grease was free to pass right through the bearing, so I employed a trick one of my buddy’s co workers told me. It’s the same principle, but instead of grease, you use bread! I’ll definitely be cataloging that one in my bag of tricks.

Also replaced the output seal on the trans and got the trans/tcase assembly stabbed back into its home. Not sure it’s a skill that I’m happy to have, but I’m getting much quicker at taking out and putting in a trans

Had my timing belt and water pump serviced today. No pics. Not really an exciting thing to take a pic of.

Bread is my go to. Works way better than grease. It takes more bread than you would think, but it works. You don't have to have a super tight seal between the hole in the bearing, and what every you are using to pound it in there. With grease. if it's not tight, it will all squish out through the gap.

It’s a lot less messy. I’ll be using it again in the future, for sure!

I had the same thing happen to me. So I ended up taking newspaper and cramming it in there with the grease and that did the trick. It was damn messy, but got the job done in the end.
